Guest rawly Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Had my c500 since the weekend. Previously had a T610 and had used email pop3/internet modem access via GPRS to laptop/pda all fine. Had a problem when trying to access email. Could not get any further than Connecting.... for any of my accounts. Orange World worked fine. Called Data support and internet access had been left off my profile for some reason. He reactivated it via SIM update, but still could not access email. He added my profile to the faster and more unrestricted 'internetvpn' access point. Email then worked fine. However, the next day I noticed Orange WAP kept bringing up the full Web page of orange internet instead of the wap portal. I had to remove automatic from the IE setting and force the connection to WAP. It then connected me to the orange WAP portal but could not regonise my number for my home page - so I seemed to be a generic unrecognised user. This all was confusing as I had GPRS Orange WAP set to 'orangewap' access point and GPRS internet to 'internetvpn'. In the end I experimented and had to set my Orange WAP to Wap Network with GPRS orangewap set to access point 'orangeinternet', and remove the 'orangewap' access point. This then allowed me to access Orange WAP and it recognised my home page. My orange internet is set to the access point 'internetvpn' which seems to allow me full internet access and email access. However, I have to change the connection type in IE to force it over to WAP/Internet. I leave automatic off as I can never get Orange WAP to work with it on. I am somewhat confused as to why 'orangeinternet' no longer allows me to access email pop3 servers - hence I have to use 'internetvpn'. I am also confused as to why I had to set my orange wap access point to 'orangeinternet' . This seems to work, but I don't know why. May be they have screwed up something when they transferred my details to the new SIM. The modem string had also changed when dialling GPRS from my PDA - which is now working OK. Anyone else had similar problems with data connections?
