Guest chucky.egg Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 I'm trying Sprite Backup at the moment, but before I buy it I want to make sure that I can restore my phone on the road (i.e. without a PC) Has anyone done this? What do I need to do to recover from a Hard Reset ? The Sprite installer seems to be a PC-based installer, so if I blow the phone away how do I get to my backup files?
Guest lutzh Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 ...you can extract the cab file from the setup exe and put it on your sd card. if your phone has an file explorer in its default rom you only need to copy the cab from card to the accessiors folder on your phone and run it from there once your phone got hard resetted. then you restore the backup that you wrote to the card before.... the thing is: it looks like sprite backup does not work properly on the 2003 SE phones. so make sure you have a e200 - then it will definitly work as it should - even with the trial version of the software! i'll try to get in touch with the guys from sprite soft to work out a version for SE too. but i don't know if they are interested in it.... cheers, lutz
Guest Disco Stu Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 ...you can extract the cab file from the setup exe cheers, lutz Is that easy to do ? Could, say, an accountant with no IT training do it ? :?
Guest lutzh Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 yes sure - simply install the exe file on your pc - it creates an entry in your program list (in my case: C:ProgrammeSprite Backup for Smartphone) and in this folder you find "Sprite Backup for Smartphone_SP2002.STRONGARM.cab" - copy it on your card and then only copy it - don't move it from card to accessoirs folder on your phone after you created a backup and did a hard reset. why copy? because it will be there next time you need it. if you move it - it won't be there ... :-) cheers, lutz
Guest chucky.egg Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Hmm, i'm using it with a C500 which is 2003SE (i think, I've kinda lost track) It all seems to be fine, but I guess the test is doing a Hard Reset and seeing what I get! "Feeling lucky punk?" [edit] before I do a hard reset to test it, can you tell me what might not work! [/edit]
Guest lutzh Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 ...thats exactly it - i've only tried it on a mpx220 with no luck - feel free to try it on your c500 and let us know if it works or not. it was telling me that it sucessfuly did backup but i had errors popping up in restore mode. try it and let us know - you only loose: time :-) cheers, lutz
Guest ustguitarista Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 hi, you can also put autorun.exe in your memroy card to be able to install sprite backup after hard reset.
Guest eddybeegy Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Use autorun.exe - I do this farily often after playing around with new apps & homescreens etc - just remove & reinsert the SD card, reinstall sprite and you're away. 8)
Guest chucky.egg Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Arrgh! It doesn't restore! It keeps saying something about only running on unlocked handsets, and doesn't give me the chance to install it again anyway. I'm just trying to do the OTA unlock again (although I didn't think it had worked before) and see if that lets me do it
Guest chucky.egg Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Jeez, this is nail biting stuff. I don't know why I'm so worried, but my heart is going like the clappers! OTA unlock gets it going again! Trying a restore now
Guest chucky.egg Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Wow, the restore was quick with no errors reported, and all seems OK. Contacts, home screen, ringtones, GPRS traffic history, Remove Programs... looks like everything. It does seem to have changed my phone "name" (was "SPV_C500", but now it's "SmartPhone") which has caused everything to re-sync
Guest lutzh Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 well then you need another application on your sd card to make sure you are on the safe side down the roard - the well known (but somehow illegal) app lock removal tool. with both on the card you should be fine... cheers, lutz
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 The best idea i've come up with is just to stick the shortcut to the OTA Unlock site on my SD card. Seems to work, assuming you have GPRS coverage when you're rebuilding your phone!
Guest lutzh Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 ...great idea - how did you do it? can you attach it here in zipped format? cheers, lutz
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I tried, but I'm not sure that this will work See if you can download it and unzip it, then copy it to your phone For us newbies: PIE shortcuts live in StoragewindowsFavorites on the C500 [edit] Seems to work for me [/edit]Unlock.zip
Guest lutzh Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 hey, it is just the standard url to the orange ota unlock process - coool! i've putted it in my list of favorites that i always store as html file on my storage card since typing in adresses and bookmarking them is just a pain in my popo. once you browse with the file explorer to the links.html and click on it it opens up in the ie and you simply bookmarkt the links.html - now you have the list of bookmarks, that you can edit on your pc pretty easy and just put it back to the card :-) if you want to do the same - here's how: - open notepad - give it a headline tag like this: News & Wetter - enter your favorite urls like this: Bild.de Tagesschau mobil - give a new headline tag for the next ressort like this: Search & Find - enter your favorite urls like this: Google Pizza.de and so on. include orange ota unlock like this: Orange OTA Unlock once you finished, save the notepad file as links.html on your desktop, copy it to your storage card, open file explorer on your device and browse to storage card/links.html. one click and it opens up in ie and you can bookmark this page. next time you start your browser it looks like the attached picture... cheers, lutz
Guest nedge2k Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Here's a nice little link page for Modaco that i just knocked together :) Its alot more readable on the phone btw :P Download HEREss000.gif
Guest lutzh Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 wherewherewhere? :-) cheers, lutz
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Cheers nedge Excellent idea
Guest doyle_am Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Just my 2 pence worth (hey I'm not in the USA!).... To save those fingers, change the shortcut to the unlock page to something like this and then all you have to do is selct the "OK" button and you're done: http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/SPV.aspx?F=T+PhoneNumber|EMEI|Name|E-mail Address|Country For example: http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/SPV.aspx?F=T+447977123456|35330000000000000|Not Me|[email protected]|uk :)
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Great tip doyle_am, People will have to do that for themselves, because I don't know a way to get the IMEI, or phone number (and there's no way to know peoples details)
Guest pomes Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Hi, I am in test trial for Sprite SP Backup, using an ATT MPX200, upgraded to 2003, I have to do a reset due to lack of space; could you please describe what is included in personal data, sytem data? How about gprs, email settings, vs maybe call lists etc.. also any issues with my setup? (PS If you provided a product FAQ section on your website, people would not need to ask you such basic qustions, and wasting your time  ) Thank you for the help
