Guest coolrich Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Hi all, Ummm was wondering if the Tom Tom 3 software does'nt work with the SPV e100 what other software will work to use in the car when traveling to give you directions. Thanks In Advance Richard
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 There is not any software that will give you directions at the moment that will work on the E100.
Guest Jasonkruys Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 I have been using mapopolis with my E100 for months, and it works well. You just need a GPS that can output serial data, and a cable to hook it to your phone. Do a search there is a thread or three on here somewhere about it. I hooked it up to my Road Angel
Guest coolrich Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 I was actually looking for something to install on the phone it's self and run off the phone throught GPRS on an in car kit
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Navigation via GPRS is something Orange was looking at a while ago but I have not heard any more on this at the moment.
Guest occe Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 I have been using mapopolis with my E100 for months, and it works well. You just need a GPS that can output serial data, and a cable to hook it to your phone. Do a Search there is a thread or three on here somewhere about it. I hooked it up to my Road Angel how well does it work in real-time? downloaded mapopolis into my e100, and it seems pretty nice. But before im going to buy an gps, need to know that it isnt to slow.
Guest Brody Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Biggest problem I found with Mapopolis was that the audible warnings were not played early enough before reaching a junction, maybe the next beta will fix this as there is an option to change this but it doesn't save any changes. ^_^
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 I used Mapopolis with my E100 and I had a serial gps wired into a Safe-2-Talk hands free kit. That way the phone would charge at the same time as well as telling me where to go through the speaker in the hands free kit and if a call came in, guess what I was already hands free ^_^ As for the software speed, it runs quite quick and in most cases it would recaculate the route before it had chance to tell me I had gone the wrong way. The only times it was slow was when I would do a route from say Birmingham to London and then make a mistake while still in Birmingham then it would recaculate the whole route again. Where if I made a mistake in London on the last bit it would only recalc the last few turns and was almost instant. You can adjust the settings on how far in advance it warns you to make a turn. If you want more info then take a look at the main Mapopolis thread.
Guest Brody Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 I found the place to change it Dr_StrangeTrick, as i said in my previous post. My problem was that it wouldn't save any changes I made to this setting for some reason.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 When I change the settings they are saved, but if I go back and check they they are all reset back to normal. But if I change my 'Voice prompts starting...' setting to 120 seconds then it does sound two minutes ahead, if I change to 10 seconds then it changes accordingly. Not too sure why yours does not work, perhaps a uninstall and reinstall maybe?
Guest Brody Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 So they do work but if i check them it resets them? I assumed that it wasn't saving them when I checked, i'll give that a go! ^_^
