why oh why did htc not use the xD card tpye, do we really need another flash card type. Coulda used my camera ones if that was the case, surely minisd isnt faster or better, its not cheaper.

Its about the same size i think.

Maybe it hase the potential to be bigger in storage than xD cards?

Anyone any ideas? or is it design for designs sake. (money spinner)

TBH does it really matter?

My camera takes SD, so with the MiniSD-to-SD adpator I can use the same memory in both devices (probably won't in practice, but I could in theory)

There are loads of formats, and they could have chosen any one, but at the end of the day MiniSD does the job thats required of it just as well as any other.

Actually when you look at how the minisd card is positioned in the C500 it does allow more PCB to be available for electronics. Trust me when I say that even a few extra square mm make a big difference when designing something as compact as a phones PCB. Also putting it under the battery has saved a good 2mm in thickness. MiniSD I believe is also less power demanding when in use than normal SD I believe but dont quote me on that! And lastly xD is a dying format and Fuji know it, SD is far superior. Hell fuji has even started putting CFII slots in their cameras because the write speed of xD sucks.

hmm interesting luke

For sure MiniSD uses less power then SD, but im not on about that, im on about them deciding not to use xD.

xD dying format? xD slower? My older Fuji 4900z camera used SD, My newer Fuji s5000 uses xD, and its way quicker at saving and transfering the pics.

Lets see some Facts about writing speeds of xD, SD and miniSD.

Ive seen a good page for comparasons for SD and MiniSD spec, so that clear enough

The reason i would have preferred xD (assuming it would have been suitable) is that firstly, xD is readily available NOW, and established. Also its another fekking 50million in 1 reader i need to get. Annddd i already have xD cards.

I tihnk i agree, its a money making excersice... somehow, maybe a deal with SD factorys.

EDIT1 .... sorry human memory error, my older Fuji 4900z used Smartmedia, (spits on the floor)

Why would you need a new reader?

Once in the converter, it's an SD card, so actually, the majority people would need to buy a reader for xD, because most of the 6,7,8 in one readers DON'T have xD but DO have SD. Look at the media readers that come in the front of most new PCs, i would say at least 75% are the standard CF/CF2/Microdrive, Smartmedia, Memory Stick, SD/MMC design.

And even though miniSD is a newer format that xD, prices already seem to be cheaper per mb at the 256mb break.

You are right .... ( i slap myself with a white glove and challenge myself to a duel)

Well pointed out...

In that case my only gripe is....xD is here NOW (and 512 is £69.99 not £90), miniSD is nearly here, ie stock is low 512mb is too expensive (grumbles under breath, let me be right about 1 thing  )

You are right Simon! :)

Lower prices and greater availability (they really go hand in hand) are goo darguments for using xD

I'm holding off buying another card (got 256 already) until the 1Gb cards are out because the costs of 512 are too high

Where is the xD card for £70? That's a great price!

But another argument for the miniSD is that more and more devices are taking on SD as a standard, whereas xD is a little less flexible. Just IMHO of course :)

xD 512mb is 69.99 on Ebuyer, (it might be without vat though  )

Yes 1gb would be a very handy size to have. Could even do PC backups on it. As well as the usual stuff.

If the miniSD slot was external i would have no issuse with buying a few 256's but i dont wanna have the hassle of 'phone off' each time.

(when am i gonna get that next star eh, comeeeeonnnn)

Don't supposed anyone's been dumb enough to try taking the battery out whilst the charge/sync lead is in and see what happens?
