Guest steve_smith Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Hi all, Well, today I thought I'd set up a VPN connection on my Orange C500 so I could collect my IMAP email from work. I've been through the process of converting certificates in to the correct format for Windows Mobile before on my PocketPC, and it all worked fine. However, when I run the certificate import software I have on the C500 I get an error message telling me that it was unable to add my root certificate to the root certificate store. Going to the certificates applet on the phone shows that although my personal certificate has been added, my root certificate hasn't (which is probably why my VPN connection isn't working!). Before I start pulling my hair out, does anyone know if this is something Orange might have blocked, and if so is there a way around it? Thanks, Steve.
Guest kanuut Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 i think this is because of a certificate lock by orange. Correct me, if im wrong. Perhaps this can help you.
Guest steve_smith Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Hi, Thanks for the reply. I knew that there was some kind of locking to stop certain applications being installed, but I didn't know it applied to certificates too. Can anyone else confirm this? Thanks, will check out link in any case, Steve.
Guest kmara Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 I had issues importing a cert so that I could use OTA ActiveSync with my companies E2K3 server. I unlocked it using the Orange developers website, and was able to install the cert. The cert is now listed as a Root Certificate. It now sync's great with Exchange out on the road, a real lifesaver.

It will be very useful, just have to make sure I don't use too much GPRS (phoned Orange this morning who told me there is no way of checking how much of your monthly GPRS allowance you have used, which is a bit poor considering how much they fleece you per Mb when you go over it). Steve.
Guest steve_smith Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 OK, so I got the phone unlocked and my certs imported fine eventually (probably nothing to do with the locking in the end, but thats another story) and went to establish the VPN connection, but it doesn't work :) Nothing in the server logs, just the phone giving up after 30 seconds or so. Did a bit of googling, and found a newsgroup post from someone last year saying that standard Orange UK GPRS plans block VPN/IPSEC traffic. Does anyone know if this is still the case? Used to work fine on my T-Mobile phone with GPRS, and won't be happy if I can't use it on Orange. Steve.
Guest CrunchSA Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Can you give a little more information on how your got your Personal Certificate added? I've been searching around for hours to no avail! I can get Root certs to install just fine, just not Personal ones.
