Guest glynton Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Are there ANY portable hard-drive media devices that are able to playback WMA Lossless format? Most players i've read into about have a bit-rate cap of about 320kbps whereas a lot of my Lossless tracks reach 1000kbps average. I was wondering if anyone has actually tried or even better can try for me! :) I'm not starting a format debate i know for a fact that there are a lot of people who hate the format, but opinions on encoding etc can be left to another thread. It's so annoying whenever you try to speak about WMA lossless SOMEONE will have a stab at you. Thanks
Guest Dr Who Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Sorry can't help, bro. But what is the bit-rate of a .cda track?
Guest glynton Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 I dunno. I guess it'd be same as .WAV but it would be Uncompressed and storage space is a big factor when storing your entire collection.
Guest MorphFx Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I calculate that pure CD 16-bit stereo @ 44.1khz works out to be... (((44100 * 2) * 2) * 8 ) = 1411200 = 1411.2 kbps (((hz * tracks) * bytes per sample) * bits per byte) So I guess lossless wma can save you a third of your storage space approximately! Not bad considering you still got every single bit of the original signal stored - a good idea when you building a massive library, no point wasting your time mp3'ing your whole collection knowing dam well you have not quite captured the original essence!
Guest Dr Who Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Yeah, I despise MP3's - I can just about abide them as a portable format (I listen to my minidisc, which is also pretty compressed) but at home? Forget it. Never really thought about lossless encoding............maybe something to occupy the long winter nights!
Guest glynton Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 At the moment i use my NetMD... and it's fine for travelling but there's no substitute, when using a good stereo, for a CD or Lossless.
