Guest nedge2k Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 (edited) Hi all, Just a quick post to help with some of ur BT probs. It may have been posted before but some people dont know about it. If you cant get ur phone to connect to ActiveSync via Bluetooth, so much so that the phone itself doesnt even display the words "Connecting", try this: First delete the original paring wth the device Then goto async on the phone and select Setup BT Async Repair the device from there then try and connect All should be well :) [edit] Last night i had some major problems with the native bluetooth in SP2 whic, after nearly 4 hours of fiddling, i managed to sort out. So here are some morethings u may find useful: -Your incoming COM por needs to be set to COM6 and outgoing to COM7. Main reason for this is that async doesnt like numbers above 11 (thanks to gryph0n for that tip). You can use other number...but trust me its far esier if you can get the ports to be 6 and 7. -If your bluetooth software has assigned different numbers to the ports you can them in Control Pannel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Com & LPT Ports. Find the port you are changing and right-click > properties the go to port settings > advanced and change the port number. If it says it in use you can still change it but u must be sure thats its not being used by something else. Most of the time however its just a "phantom" com port and u can still use it. Also make sure activesync is looking for the right COM port too by checking the connection settings. -So now the com ports have the right numbers reboot ur pc and then ur phone. After that re-pair (dont delete) the phone with the pc using the method above. You may need to do this a few times for it to work (especially if the phone says "not connected" instead of "connecting" when u hit connect via bluetooth) because the phone still hasnt recognised that the pc supports the serial port profile. Keep fiddling with it...it will work! -On a final note...although there are alot of horror stories about blutooth async with XP SP2...i can assure you it is possible and the bluetooth works alot better than most standard widcomm drivers. Untill last night i had never had a proble connecting first time or sending files to the phone. Even with the problem i had i could still send files via blutooth to the phone with no problems. If you still have problems getting this to work, remember to http://www.modaco.com/search.php>Search the forum for the other couple of guides that are floating about as they may have some tips i have missed :P [edit 2] One other rather large thing i forgot to mention  ... If, when you to sync, you get the could not connect error within 1 second, the PC is not recognising the serial connection. To fix this try all of the above. BUT If you the error happens after that ammount of time (seems to be connecting but doesnt) then there is one other thing you need to try. Now timing is important so listen up: -Go to async on the PC and hit "get connected" -Hit next then as soon as it starts searching, hit "connect via bt" on the phone -Stop the PC searching (by hitting cancel) within 1 second of hitting "connect via bt" -After about a second the phone should start connecting with PC :D Its a fiddly thing to do but if all else is failing, then this will probably work. For instance, if i turn on my laptop without the bt dongle connected, just hitting "connect via bt" won't work. If i do the method i just told you..it works :D Edited April 28, 2005 by nedge2k
Guest badlad Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Cheers for this one nedge2k .... I'd been trying for ages to get this working with no joy. As soon as i tried this it worked :)
Guest beersoft Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 another uselful tip is install XP servicepack 2, its on windows update now the bt drivers in that kick some booty, and make getting the phone to talk to the pc later Owen (and if the windowsupdate doesn't work, stop stealing software and buy it you cheapskate)
Guest kie Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 nice one nedge, this had really been getting to me
Guest sleepydruid Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 I also have been pulling my hair out over this one! Orange Data Team have got back to me to confirm that they cannot get it to work either. I will try the above method when I get home!!!!! Then call Orange with the good news!
Guest sleepydruid Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 No good news! This is doin my nut in! Still cannot connect via BT. I've even done a fresh install of XP HELLLLP
Guest sameerabedi Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Hi all, Just a quick post to help with some of ur BT probs. My phone is bonded with my PC, so what do I need to do?
Guest shadamehr Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 After deleting my partnership, I then went to ActiveSync>Setup BT Async and then got the following message after clicking on repair "Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or ActiveSync profile as your ActiveSync partner!" My phone is bonded with my PC, so what do I need to do? If you DELETED your partnership, the phone is no longer BONDED with your pc is it mate *lol* - I think the idea is to RE-bond it from within active sync setup and this seems to be the key. My problem however, is that I CAN'T re-bond from the phone, as my PC is not receiving the passkey request and asking me to enter it... DOH!!!!!
Guest gsr264 Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 I'm not seeing that option on the mpx220
Guest sameerabedi Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 If you DELETED your partnership, the phone is no longer BONDED with your pc is it mate *lol* - I think the idea is to RE-bond it from within active sync setup and this seems to be the key. My problem however, is that I CAN'T re-bond from the phone, as my PC is not receiving the passkey request and asking me to enter it... DOH!!!!! I didn't delete my BT pairing with the phone, but my activesync partnership, but it still doesn't work. When I connect to activeync with the cable it won't let me use BT. My mate owns the K700i and that connected with my pc straightaway! and let me transfer files to and from the phone. The SPV only lets me use dialup networking and won't let me transfer files, i still have to use the cable to do that!! What is going wrong! bascially how do i transfer files to and from my phone using BT??? Thanks
Guest gsr264 Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 I cant get my mpx220 to bluetooth sync, and their is NO "Activesync-Setup BT Activesync" option. Ideas? They are bonded but when I manually hit the sync button on the phone... nothing.
Guest shadamehr Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 After deleting my partnership, I then went to ActiveSync>Setup BT Async and... Sorry mate... Your post just above says you didn't delete the partnership, but your QUOTE just up above, from your post a bit earlier, says you did exactly that. Apologies if I was therefore wrong - I was just going off what you had said...
Guest sameerabedi Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 yeah, but can u reply to my main question - how do i transfer files toand from my phone and pc using BT??
Guest shadamehr Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Until you can manage to get activesync to connect over Bluetooth, you can't. And getting that to work is as hit and missy as they come mate - honestly... Sorry I can;t help more - all I can say is check in Bluetooth neighbourhood on your PC, to see what your Serial Port COM assingment is (it needs to be 9 or lower). Then, in ActiveSync itself, in connection settings, when it asks you what port to use, enter the number you found before, from your PC. Then keep trying to get it to connect.
Guest myjess Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 You can transfer files to and from the C500 phone without active sync working. As long as the phone and PC are paired n the Bluetooth setting (win XP SP2 bluetooth software, not widcomm). There is an option somewhere in the deepest darkest decesses of the menus that say enable send or some such. You can then beam with smartexplorer or can right click on file and send to bluetooth device from XP. This activesync thing thought is really pissing me off. I had to regedit to drop my com ports below 10(AS doesn't like anything above 10) Then delete and redo my properties from with XP BT setup where it found the COM port(which also had to be switched on via configuration. It found Com 6 on the phone and routed it to virtual com7 on the PC. AS now sees COM 7 but no matter what I do I cannot sync the phone. AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHh somebody shoot the phone testers/developers and sales guys.
Guest Chris Bevan Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 I have an SPV E200 and have succesfully bonded (from the phone to PC). When I then sync though it comes up with message "Unable to connect. Verify your dial up or proxy settings are correct and try again". How do I do this?! I have tried different COM port settings but to no avail. :?:
Guest Matx Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I have exactly the same problem with my C500 (and WinXPSP2). I would be eternally grateful if someone replies with a fix. Cheers.
Guest jfran Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Hi There is a comprehensive guide over on geekzone with the solutions to your problem. rgds Jim
Guest ronny Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 I have exactly the same problem with my C500 (and WinXPSP2). Â I would be eternally grateful if someone replies with a fix. Cheers. check your firewall settings, make sure that "active sync application and acticesync connection manager" has a check under control panel> windows firewall> exceptions. :)
Guest MikeAndSal Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 I have exactly the same problem with my C500 (and WinXPSP2). I would be eternally grateful if someone replies with a fix. Cheers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Having spent the last four hours attempting to get my C500 to sync using Bluetooth, I finally managed to get BT connection by unpairing and the re-pairing the PC and the C500. If it helps, here's my suggestion for getting BT to work with ActiveSync. On the PC: Remove any partnership with ActiveSync and then unpair the C500 from the PC. (I have HP Bluetooth installed on my XP SP2 machine, but I believe the process is similar with SP2 bluetooth.) Open My Bluetooth Places, click on View/Modify Configuration and finally choose the Local Services tab. ensure that the Bluetooth Serial Port service is set to COM7 On the C500: Navigate to Start->Configurations->BT SerialPort Setup and ensure that the outbound COM port is enabled. (On my C500 this is set to COM 7 which matches up with the BT config setting on the PC). Just in case, enable the Inbound COM port as well! Navigate to Start->Settings->Bluetooth and choose BT Setting. Either change or take a note of your device name. enable the authentication checkbox. Click Done and then go to the Bluetooth section and ensure that it is set to discoverable On the PC: Pair the PC with the C500 using My Bluetooth Places (View devices in range option). After pairing, you should have a bluetooth connection between the PC and the C500. Go to ActiveSync and navigate to File->Connection Settings. Ensure that the Allow Serial port or infrared connection to this COM port checkbox is enabled and that COM7 is chosen from the pulldown list. (Again, COM7 matches with the BT config we setup earlier.) Using the USB cable, create an ActiveSync partnership with the C500. Once that has been set-up remove the cable from the C500 and try to connect using BT from the C500. Fingers crossed that should work  If not, keep on experimenting. BT seems very fickle and wil work when it wants to and not before! Regards Mike
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Another tip that i've picked up, and that *finally* allowed it to work for me (with both my m2000 and my c500) with XPSP2 BT, is before you add any pairings add a com port for incomming connections, without specifying any device. I did this then paired my pda and phone from the device, and viola, it worked!
Guest soli1978 Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 I have tried many things and eventually I have it working now. After enabling all the bluetooth connections, pairing, and all those stuff, there is what I did: - SPV has COM7 as its serial port for BT - You have to have COM7 as your BT serial port as well. - Initially I had COM3. I couldn't find any way to configure the port number. - BT icon -> right click -> Advanced configuration -> Client applications - Add new COM ports until you can select COM7 in the properties for BT serial port in Local Services tab. - You can delete the added ports from the Client applications tab. - In the Activesync program, goto File -> Connection settings. - Select the box on the top and select COM7 as the COM port. - In the phone, open activesync program. - Do Menu -> Connect via Bluetooth I have an HP dv1000 with XP Prof SP2.
Guest celestialclock Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) :) Alright. I've been trying connect my Jam to the PC using Activesync 4.1 over bluetooth for over three days now... and... I've finally got it (quite unexpectedly)..... B) I dunno what I set right to get it working :P , but these are things I did and it started working: - First of all, you can use almost any bluetooth stack on your PC to get it working. I used the ISSC Bluetooth dongle with BlueSoleil software, which is supposedly the most buggy BT software! -Your BT stack should support Serial Port Profile... btw I think, all BT stacks support that - this is only a conjecture. These are my current working settings: Settings-->Connections-->Bluetooth-->Mode-->(Checked)Turn on Bluetooth Settings-->Connections-->Bluetooth-->Mode-->(Checked)Make this device discoverable to other devices Settings-->Connections-->Bluetooth-->Devices--><"I see my computer name here... btw... don't start adding your computer right away, I'll tell you how to do it later - or atleast in which order I did it to get it working"> Settings-->Connections-->Bluetooth-->COM Ports--><Computer Name> (COM0) <"You will have to create an outgoing port once you add your computer in the previous screen. Coming to that also later."> Settings-->System-->Bluetooth Setting-->Outbound COM Port (Checked ?) <"When I started out, I left it checked, but now it is unchecked automatically !!!"> Settings-->System-->Bluetooth Setting-->Inbound COM Port (Unchecked ?) Now this is what I did, step by step: 1: On my PC, I deleted the existing parterneship between the PPC and the computer in Activesync 2. In my Bluetooth program, I actually didn't do anything. I only noted that it assigns COM 8 (in my case - it may be different for you - that's for you to find out) to any incoming COM port connections. NOTE: I did not pair the devices yet. 3. I went back to Activesync-->File-->Connection Settings-->Allow connections to one of the following-->COM 8 (as I had noted in the prev. step). 4. Then, on the JAM, I went to Settings-->System-->Bluetooth Setting--> Bluetooth Activesync Setup--> click on Start. Now it will tell you something in a dialog box..."Please start bonding with other...." Click on OK. Now you will be taken to another familiar window. 6. Then I turned on Bluetooth went to the Devices tab. 7. (Though i already had my computer on the devices list, I deleted it). Clicked on New... (......) then my computer was detected... gave a passkey.. and clicked on next... now on the computer a dialog popped asking for the same passkey... entered it and OK. Then, I entered the Display name on the Jam. And this is where I actually paired the devices - note that I initiated it from the Pocke PC. 8. Then, I went to the COM Ports tab, clicked on New Outgoing port... it wanted me to select my computer's name --> then selected COM0 --> OK. 9. Now I went to Programs-->ActiveSync. 8. Tools-->Options-->PC tab-->PC synchronisation--><"Check all the boxes">-->Options-->in the list box, select Bluetooth. <"I actually followed this because I read it on a forum - though it says 'when craddled'. The first time I tried it, Bluetooth didn't turn up on the list... I dunno what I did to get it !!! May be checking Ougoing Bluetooth Port in the Bluetooth Setting got it, or simply enabling bluetooth may bring it in the list ??"> 9. Now all set, in the ActiveSync window on the PPC, Tools-->Connect via Bluetooth--> and tada, it connected. My primary interest to connect via bluetooth was that, I could now use the Internet connection of my PC on the PPC. Note: Intially, while trying to get AS working over BT, I started the activesync on the PC, so even if it did find my PPC on the virutal COM port, it would say, "Microsoft activesync cannot recognize this device......."--> so you ought to start AS on the PPC. So, the thing is, you intiate everything from the PPC, right from the pairing to the activesyncing Whew. That was one long post... Hope it helps. Meanwhile, if you have any queries, do tell me - shall be glad to help. :) ;) :D edit: Just another tip: After everything works the first time... from then, if at any time again you get "Microsoft Activesync cannot recognise your device", just delete your partnership on the PC and connect from the PPPC again.
