Guest paddy_mcnulty Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 Sorry if I appear a bit dense here. I had an original SPV so didn't really bother with Photo Messaging as I couldn't be bothered with the camera attachment. Anyway, now I have a C500 and can now take and send pictures. There is a couple of things I am confused by though. When I send a an MMS the G square for GPRS comes on when I am sending it. Does this mean that the size of the message i am sending will come out of my GPRS package or will I be charged the usual orange MMS fee and the file size will not affect my GPRS usage? If I am gettinh charged per message like a normal (non smartphone) user then it might worth while getting a Photo message package. I not I will have be careful with my GPRS useage (shame there is no way having a GPRS counter on the phone - I'm always worried near the end of month how much I have used and whether my phone bill will kill me...) Also, a couple of times the MMS has failed. As I have not done this before is it because I am cancelling the sending by pressing the red call stop button even after the message has been sent (so the screen says) but the little G is still there. Is the little G indicating that the message is being sent and I should wait longer so that it will disappear on it's own? Hope the above makes sense and I would be very glad if anyone could clear this up for me. Pads
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 You will be charged for the MMS as an MMS it just uses the GPRS connection as it's method to send the actual message.
Guest Samsonite Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Just be sure that your MMS settings are as O set them... My wife mucked around with hers and got 'double' charged... the usual 40 odd pence for the MMS PLUS the corresponding GPRS data charge... I phoned CS to say hang on a minute but the guy told me that MMS's go thru a specified portal and dont count as 'surfing' GPRS traffic. If your MMS settings arent as standard, the network will happily pick up the fact its an MMS and also wop ya for a data tranaction too!!
Guest sponge Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 The cost for sending a photo also depends on the file size and how many photos you send in the message. From the Orange website: Save 20% on each photo message when you buy a bundle - costing less than 20p each to send. You can include photo messages with your texts and if you send a photo message to an incompatible phone, the recipient will be directed to the Orange website to view your photo message online. Additional photo messages are charged at 25p each. Multiple photo messages and messages over 50KB will be charged at 50p each I was being charged for MMS messages (sending photos) when I thought they should have been coming out of my monthly allowance. When I called OCS to find out why, it was because the file size was too large to qualify for the 'free' message. :? So be careful.
Guest paddy_mcnulty Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Cheers for the advice guys. I will have to make sure the MMS's don't go over 50Kb.
