What is contained in 'Application Data' and 'AppMgr'?

I'm talking about these two folders:

StorageApplication Data

StoragewindowsAppMgr

I am using a SPV E200 and am asking as I stupidly deleted the contents of 'StoragewindowsAppMgr' folder as it appeared to contain temporary data. I've since found out among other things it contains uninstall data (I can't uninstall properly a dictionary I installed, it's not a big deal as I deleted it manually).

But more to the point I also found out to my dismay if you delete the contents of this folder and reset the phone it wipes (completely) the folders:

StorageApplication Data

StorageMy Documents

Luckily I don't store any data in the 'My Documents' folder on my SPV, also luckily I have all the skins and ring tones I use on my pc so I was able to copy them back but I'm now wondering what else should be in these folders?

The only 'real' downside to deleting the contents of this folder I can see is that if I decide to uninstall an application I may not be able to. I could 'hard reset' the SPV but seeing as my SPV is so configured I don't want to do that (I've not updated to the latest rom, it's improvements don't warrant it IMO).

Thank you

The solution to deleting AppMgr contents is to reinstall everything.

That way you get the .tmp files back and you can ensure that everything gets cleaned up when you uninstall things. There may be registry keys that need deleting as well as the .exe and shortcut.

My Application Data contains the following folders :

1. Action Engine - presumably put there by the OTA unlock process

2. Home - you'll get the standard skins back after reset

3. Profiles - ditto

4. Sounds - your own stuff

5. System - contains mst9.udb

6. Volatile - empty anyways

Sorry I don't have the MMS templates anymore, but hope the rest helps

:)

If you do a hard reset you will get the templates back.

Firstly thanks a lot guys/girls

What does OTA stand for?

I've just noticed that all the missing folders ("Volatile" etc...) are now back, the phone must re-create them if missing. They have files in them too.

So all in all I was lucky. I've only lost the "default" MMS pictures and the ability to uninstall the software on my phone which at the end of the day I can always hard reset later anyway. I don't want to uninstall the software anyway (it works fine).

I had a backup of the entire contents of my "Home" folder which naturally contained the "default" home screens.

Unfortunately this doesn't work or at least it doesn't for the dictionary I deleted manually.

I should be more clear initially I deleted the contents of AppMgr folder and then found I couldn't uninstall the dictionary, so I tried to re-install it but got an error saying it can't install (I guess because it's partially installed already). I then deleted the install folder manually and searched in the registry for all keys to do with the software but the phone wouldn't let me deleted them.

Again I can't see it causing any harm leaving them in there, if the same rules of the PC Windows registry applies. I then reset the phone to see if this would let me deleted the entries and then I found the folders empty. Put simply it looks like I will have to hard reset to clear the dictionary software from my phone, which luckily I don't want anyway (it wasn't very good and I've found a better one anyway).

I'm dead against a hard reset or software upgrade as my phone is so configured (as I'm sure most are). If the problem was a bigger one I would though.

p.s - Note to Orange .tmp is a standard computer extension for a "temporary file". What idiot decided to use it for a non-temporary file.

OTA is the Over The Air method to application unlock the Orange Smartphones.

Unfortunately the best thing is to do a hard reset as it is the only way to clear the unfortunate clutter you have created. You're not the first to do this either so no worries :)

If you start to get promlems then you should do one.

It's actually Microsoft that creates how the OS and files work, the tmp

are not Orange's doing.

Thanks again, that's exactly what I was thinking.

Sorry my bad. I forgot that. That's even worse though, considering they make Windows.
