Guest Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I've just received my C500 and I'm pretty pleased with it so far (barring some crashes). However, I am having problems receiving my IMAP mail and I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem. I've set it to only download today's headers but the phone doesn't collect any. I have had problems even connecting to the server but this is probably down to Orange's GPRS being a bit flakey. Can anyone suggest something to sort this out? I never had any problems on my old SPV classic or E100. Thanks.
Guest Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Sorry to bump this but is no-one else having a problem with this? I've changed the settings to dowload the last 3 days' worth of mail and it now appears to be downloading just today's headers. A bug or something strange with my mail server?
Guest jimbouk Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 i cant even log on to my corporate imap4 servers over gprs!!
Guest tarasis Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 I'm interested in this as well. I have a spv c500 and am trying to connect to my IMAP server (Mercury Mail). When I try to connect I see the message "Connecting" then "Logging On" then an error message saying "unable to connect to the incomming mail server". However if I look at the mail server logs, there is no connection attempts occuring from outside sources to my server. I've tried using my server's external IP address, rather than domain name but that hasn't done anything. Any thoughts?
Guest TigerNet Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 ...I have connected to my IMAP mail with no issues...if you post your settings, I will try to see if there are differences...there have been a few posts around about passwords not being entered correctly if you have t9 active...maybe try abc mode for this... Cheers Nick
Guest illusion Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 I can also not get e-mail via IMAP. It just sits there saying 'Connecting...'. I ran tcpdump on my IMAP server and the packets aren't even getting to the server so its not an authentication issue but something else - what, I dont know though!! Dan
Guest thedode Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 I have the same problem. I have exactly the same settings as I had in my old SPV and it doesn't work. It just sits there with 'Connecting..' and never gets any further. The littile GPRS 'G' symbol appears and remains until you go back to the home screen. If you then return back to the Messaging app it still says 'Connecting'. I can select 'Stop Send/Receive' and it will then just sit there with 'Disconnecting'. The only way to get it 'back to normal' is to turn phone on/off And of course, it doesn't actually get my mail. grrr. anyone got any ideas?
Guest ear7pwl Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I too had this problem when collecting my IMAP mail. It said "connecting..." for ages and nothing happened. Then I rang the Orange wirefree helpline and got it working. The customer services person told me to try connecting, then after 30 seconds select "Stop Send/Recieve". Then after I selected this it magically started saying "Logging On" and "Recieveing headers" and lo and behold, my emails appeared. SInce I did this the first time everything just works normally now. I click "Send and Receive" and it works. It seems like a software bug somewhere... obviously it has happened before as the Orange man had the info on his screen about how to fix it...
Guest Djarid Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Like Tiger, mine is running fine what settings are you guys using?
Guest scottt Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I also had this problem till I phoned orange but now I can send emails no probs but when downloading emails they download ok but as soon as I get disconnected (in about 2 secs) they disappear into cyberspace. I clicked onto the top one as they were downloading and they stayed in my inbox but if I only have 1 email downloading I ain't quick enough. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Guest thedode Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 thanks ear7pwl - i tried your tip and it now sort of works!!! Now it will log-on, receive messages, receive folders, disconnect and then display the 'an eror occured while downloading messages....' screen. Not sure this really matters as i can now read my mail etc...
Guest efjay Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 HI, are you able to download all your imap folders? On my imate 2 i dont seem to be able to download the contents of a folder i created. And is there any way to stop the phone creating a send items folder on the imap server? Thanks
