Guest jest y Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 In USA I bought an unlocked MPX 200... This is branded by AT&T. In USA it works, but when I use in Italy, it doesn't works for more than some minutes. I think this is a NETWORK problem, but I think it supports a 900/1800 frequency. IT'S TRUE? Some people knows how can I solve my problem? Thanks. Davide
Guest CjBiFiDuS Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 ATT mpx200 only supports 18001900 mhz. I bought one from ATT too and it only works in 1800 network here in Spain.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 US bought AT&T phone do not have the 900Mhz band and that is what your network probably is using. In Settings change the band selection to Automatic and see if it helps, otherwise you will have to find an operator that uses the 18001900 Mhz band. It is only the AT&T mpx200 is Dual-band where as ones supplied by Orange etc are Tri-band.
Guest mmystery Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Strange, because i think all the italian mobile companies, use the 1800Mhz band, and i think only Vodafone/Omnitel also supports 900Mhz except 1800Mhz............ anyway, try the solution that awarner gave you..... it should work! :) mmystery
Guest cs_e Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hello. I've the same problem (in Luxembourg). Bought an At&T MPX-200 which is Dual-Band. My provider uses 900 + 1800 MHz but the problem is that the coverage is greater fore the 900 MHz band............ Is there really no way to enable the 900 MHz band? Thanks
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 It is not possible as it is a hardware configuration, the only solution is to either change network providers to one that does not use the 900 band or to change the phone. :)
Guest cs_e Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 Hello! I found this on ebay: "The North American version of the MPX-200 comes with the 900mhz feature disabled. This firmware flash unlocks this ability and allows you to use the 900mhz feature, making your phone a tri-band phone that works on all five continents of the world." ebay item no 5719117398 what do you think of it? regards cs_e
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Don't believe it, it may be an early release but to be safe you would be better off buying an mpx200 from the UK as it will be tri-band
Guest gianluz Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Hi folks I'm there in Italy and I could provide mor einfo about this issue: TIM and Omnitel/vodafone use mixed 1800/900 network, than when you are in 900 area you are not able to place a call. WIND it's only 1800 than if your plan allow you to use Wind like roaming partner you are ok. 3 Company it's only UMTS. Hope this help. PS:I'm looking for GSM-fix for GPRS problem in MPx200 running WM2003, do you have any link? Best Regards Gianluca
Guest PieR Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Yes, correct. newer AT&T have 900 band "hardware" locked... Buy an orange phone ... or if you live in Italy go to your nearest "Mediaworld" :) Ciao! PieR
Guest sven.siegle Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 I've found really a LOT of this "triband-due to firmware-update" phones on ebay.com. I can't really believe, that all these sellers are wrong, since they look quite serious. I've also found a company from canada which sells this firmware-update (and looks serious as well - they sell also WN 2003 for the mpx and unlock-codes). Are you really shure that this firmware-update thing woesn't work (US-phones are so cheap if you are there;-))? And: Are all US-mpx sold by AT&T with this 900 MHz-block, or are there also mpx200 from other companys that come without this block? I'd be really happy for an answer, since I'd really like to have an US-mpx, but not only as a small PDA but also as a phone ;-). Thanks!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Are you really shure that this firmware-update thing woesn't work (US-phones are so cheap if you are there;-))?Yes 100% And: Are all US-mpx sold by AT&T with this 900 MHz-block, or are there also mpx200 from other companys that come without this block? Only a few very early mpx200 phones sold by AT&T were triband by mistake. If you buy the phone from Europe then it will be tri-band as I have not heard of a single European phone that was dual-band
Guest PieR Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Most of the cheap MPX200 sold on eBay are refurbished phones. Could happen that some of them have a different radio HW after the repair... but you won't be able to know if without trying in a country where the 1800 signal is weaker than the 900 (like in most italian zones). My 0,333333 cents as always pier
Guest NineMan Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Hi Awarner what about the new Radio version 1.10 that I see some people have. maybe it will fix the 900Mhz band for AT&T dual band phones. What do you think ? --------------------- I hate AT&T
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Unfortunately not. It will not change a dualband mpx200 into a triband one it is a hardware issue so no ammount of flashing of the rom etc will change this.
