In lieu of a cradle for my C500 I'm just plugging it in and charging as I

did my E200 by the USB cable, so it synchs and charges, then when I put my PC to sleep/standby the E200 would continue charging whereas the C500 does not and actually looses a lot of charge by the morning (100% down to 65% - unplugged it looses less than 10% overnight with phone and BT).

I also noticed that it doesn't seem to start charging until an activesync

connection is made, are these problems related somehow?

It seems silly that I have to unplug the phone from the PC and into the

charger every night! I've tried it on my laptop too which gives the same results.

The lack of cradle is a major disappointment with this phone. Unless you use the mains charger the phone stops charging as soon as the PC is turned off.

And in fact leaving it connected to the PC, WILL drain the battery. Just like on a lot of things leaving it plug into the charger not plugged into the wall will also drain the battery.

Some motherboards in the Bios have an option to power the USB sockets if the PC is not on, mine does and charges the phone even when off, however i'm not sure what kind of current it allows when off.

Mmm, interestingly the E200 charges immediately before windows recognises it and only requests 80mA from the USB Hub, whereas the C500 starts charging only when windows recognises it, but then requests 500mA from the USB Hub.

Looks like they have changed the USB controller chip and charging to "behave correctly". Rather than the E200, which probably just "steals" power without asking from the USB Hub.

(These are the logical USB Hubs on the motherboard, not an external device)

Hopefully there is a software solution, but probably will require an externally powered Cradle/Cable :)

My e200 charged when the pc was off but not my c500 :)

Which brings me to my first two questions on that board an I hope they're not extremely dump.

1. Is it possible to charge the phone without any software installed on the host PC, or is there a logical circuit on the mobile only allowing interaction / charging with installed soft?

2. Slightly off topic but anyway: Is it possible to use the phone as a kind of USB Memory Stick with *any* PC - or is installation of ActiveSync mandatory to access data stored on the SD card? In other words - is the integrated USB client port a standard one or is it limited to ActiveSync operation?

Thanks alot in advance guys. This forum is a bliss and very helpful :!:

1 - Yes you can just plug your phone in.

2 - I think you need ActiveSync to access your phone when connect to your PC. I don't see any other way.
