hi,

Anyone played around with movies or video clips on the c500 yet?

Im interested on how much better it is than the E100...

at different resolutions. Windows Media player on the E100 caused choppy performance for me, but PocketTV was better. Still had to be a pretty low res to get smooth playback.

Please comment on the C500's ability

depending on what your playing it will run better, for example if there is lots of movement it might slow down.

BUT it also depends what it is, like CG clips will run better than real life clips, and cartoons will run better than that still, but i can say it runs about 50% faster than any of the other SPV's including the E100. But of course it still has its limitations

I, eh, have only just started dabbling in video for phones, so I don't know if what I'm about to try and describe is any use. (I could also be choosing spectacularly dumb settings; if I am please tell me!)

I quickly gave up on video for the original SPV as by the time you'd reduced the quality enough for it to play, there wasn't much to watch.

I have converted an episode of Yes Minister (lots of movement in many scenes) to a 6fps 64kbps 160x120 file (28 mins went into 12.2MB wmv file). This works fine. You do though sometimes need to close any other apps in Task Manager for it to run smoothly, so I sensed this might be about the phones' limit.

I've also converted a clip of Riverdance (a lot of which actually has less movement as the dancers are tiny on the stage). It's running more or less quite happily on full screen at 6fps 216kbps 208x160, a 4.5 min 5.61MB wmv file.

The screen is fantastic and I'd happily recommend the phone to anyone!

If I need to describe anything differently, or should try other settings, please let me know!!!

you should be getting more that 6fps, i was getting more than that on my e100, but so many things need to be taken into consideration, ie res, pic quality, sound quality

hi peepz... have a look for beta player in the apps section and install it. It handles divx encoded files and there is a handy pocket encoder utility for getting them the right size. The end result is amazing. I have matrix reloaded on my phone at 25fps and it runs likea charm. WMV is nice for sreaming.
