Does anyone know yet whether Active-Sync relies on the "open ports" which SP2 is designed to shut?

I don't want to install this update to find Active-Sync refuses to work.

I haven't seen this app listed on the MS website as an affected prog but....

I have SP2 and had no problems with Active Sync after upgrading.

No problem here with SP2.

SP2 is meant to mess with the Bluetooth stack though. I have an MSI BT dongle so downloaded a 'fix' from their site. However, it didn't help with my PC. In fact, it buggered it up and now I can't AS via BT.

My g/f's PC also has SP2 and uses the same dongle and MSI software without the MSI SP2 fix and BT works fine.

I can't seem to remove the 'updated' driver from my PC. I think I need to find it in the registry to erradicate it 100%.

I got an on screen window asking if i was going to specifically allow active sync program to go around the firewall its put up.

(I get the message for alot of things quite cool really)

I'm running the firewall too. It seems to be handling itself quite well, no problems at all. If an application needs permission to communicate I just allow it.

Thanks to all for your comments.

I'm on super-go-slow-dialup as Auto Update downloads this bohemoth of an update! With any luck it'll be finished Wednesday!

Oh yes my good old mate "dail up" :) .

Mate order the cd:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...us/default.mspx

As for the issue you bought up i can confirm that SP2 has no problems with ActiveSync. When ActiveSync attempts to connect to the internet a pop up is displayed ask your permission for it to grant it access OR as below you can change configuration from the control panel.

Hope that helps.

SP2 will be on many magazine cover-discs soon - Windows XP Magazine (the one for n00bs) is in the shops now - and I think that either PC Pro or PC Format will be doing it as well.

The CD was on the cover of PC Gamer as well. Someone mentioned that this update messes with the Bluetooth Stack? Well it does on mine as well but only intermittently. Sometimes I get a message saying "Bluetooth Stack Error" and sometimes not. I have a Widcomm based dongle, any ideas if there is a fix for it?

I think you should remove the software which came with your dongle . service pack 2 introduces its own Bluetooth stack . i removed my device specific software before running SP2 . Still needed a bit of mucking about ( you have to set the com port manually in active sync ) but i got it to work . The new bluetooth stack seems really stable . I can get my E 200 to connect now first time everytime . Hope this helps
