Guest tim fry Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Hi all Just recently bought a c500 and I'm having problems with my email setup. Its btopenworld mail. I have used the same settings as my old mpx200 and spv but it just wont work.I have spoken to orange and they can't sort it can anyone help please? thanks Tim
Guest fox5150 Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hi Tim, I also use BT Openworld's email and I have also had problems. What I have since discovered is that it just takes a ridiculously long time to connect with mail.btopenworld.com and download the messages. It does eventually work though. I tried my friend's details for Blueyonder's email and that connected, logged on and downloaded in about 10 secs, whereas the BT Openworld takes sometimes in excess of 90 secs. Since BT and Yahoo came together there have been lots of changes to their joint email system, and I'm not sure if some of the new features are causing a problem. I'm going to get in contact with BT's tech support today and see if they can think of anything that might be causing it. If I get anything worthwhile I'll post the info. Hope this helps Fox
Guest tim fry Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hi Fox Thanks for the tips. I have sorted the problem now, I think it must be a bug with the phone as when I entered the zeros in my password it didnt show what letter or number it was putting in before it turned to a star. So to get around it I changed from text (ABC) to numbers (123) and that then showed the zeros before they turned to stars. It seemed odd as my old SPV and my MPX 200 would allow you to keep pressing the key you needed till the number appeared! (I hope this makes sense!) Maybe this will help any other people who may have this problem Tim
Guest fox5150 Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 Hi Tim, I've got to the bottom of the problem I was experiencing. The problem with my BT Openworld account was that it was taking ages to download the messages. It did eventually but is taking a ridiculous amount of time. I change the POP3 server from mail.btopenworld.com to mail.btinternet.com and all of a sudden, downloading email is a lot quicker. Try it out, see what you think. Fox
