Hello all,

I am new to smartphone (ms) world so please forgive me if it has been mentioned before. I have just been looking around for navigation software. Found this out; I haven't seen it before. It's about Autoroute 2005.

Don't Get Lost!

Find out exactly where you are while you're on the road. And with the new Advanced GPS features, it's easier than ever to see where you are and change your route based on your current location (GPS device needs to support NMEA 2.0 or later). Just plug the device into your PC running AutoRoute, and you'll see your location.

Take AutoRoute on Your Travels

AutoRoute 2005 gives you AutoRoute for your Windows PC, Pocket Streets for your Pocket PC and new Pocket Streets for your Smartphone. So whether you're at home or on the move, AutoRoute's at hand to guide your way.

It seems to be mapping software rather than navigational (i.e. turn-by-turn). Has anyone got it or tried it out yet?

Does anything actually incorporate mapping and travel (traffic) info yet? That would be a killer application.

Hi there, welcome to the site.

You need to look at Mapopolis this is the only package for the Windows Smartphone at the moment.

It runs on just about all of the devices with either a Bluetooth GPS or a serial GPS/Cable arrangment.

Mapopolis is very good but it is very different to others you may have used so it is not to everyones taste.

Just about everything you need is in the thread (its a long one) and more packages are due soon, keep looking.

Thanks. I have seen mapopolis and it looks good. It isn't the only package (Autoroute 2005 is available now which is why I mentioned it) :)

AutoRoute isn't the same thing though - it's PC based, and you export a journey (or a region, I think) to your phone. You can't (AFAIK) plan a route on the phone.

Mapo lets you plan a route on the phone, and gives you directions etc. Combined with a GPS unit it gives you journey trails and all sorts of other nice toys too!

Just plug the device into your PC running AutoRoute, and you'll see your location.

Is that really a quote from the MS site?

If my device is plugged into my PC I know exactly where I am: I am in my back bedroom, at home. I don't need Autoroute to tell me that! :?

I copied and pasted it (if thats allowed  ) from the ms site. The full link is http://www.microsoft.com/uk/homepc/autorou...te/default.mspx

The only other info I can see is under requirements:

"A Microsoft Windows-powered Smartphone 2002, or Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Smartphone or later with ActiveSync 3.6 API and 350 KB available program memory required for installation of Pocket Streets for Smartphone. Installing map files requires additional memory, approximately 1 MB per city map"

As such it looks like it may show you a route you have planned but are you able to route around it just using the phone??? Any ideas?

Which has an MPX200 in it

Easy To Use and Take Along

Streets and Trips 2005 includes Pocket Streets for your Pocket PC and the New! Pocket Streets for Smartphone, giving you easy access to your maps on your notebook PC, Pocket PC or Smartphone without needing an Internet connection.

Is this just a map or whta? Very confusing

Just noticed http://www.microsoft.com/streets/order.aspx

that the streets and trips is $39.99

Whilst the streets & trips with GPS is $129.99 :) which is dear but includes a USN hardware GPS antenna. Now can this be plugged into (with drivers) a C500? I have emailed and will let you know...............

It is a pharos device and is viewable here http://mstreets.pharosgps.com/ so a bluetooth docking station can be bought but that adds $99

Any admins have any ideas???

There are threads for Pocket Streets here as well and they all say the same.

Streets (whichever version) will allow you to export a section of a map from AutoRoute and if you have a GPS attached it will show you where you are on the map, but that's it.

Lets face it, if PocketStreets could plan and provide route guidance then it would be the number one product. Just imagine it everyone with an up to date copy of AutoRoute would be exporting map like mad.
