Hi,

I'am tring to fix BetaPlayer's GAPI support for C500. I read the workaround by PocketTV Team but still there seems to be a problem. Could someone install and test BetaPlayer with GAPI (or Raw framebuffer which ever is available in the options menu) and report back exactly what can be seen on the screen? Please use and check all these three versions: 0.04, 0.090 and 0.091.

http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=9

here is sample movie for testing: http://plugins.topcat.hu/samples/RL_SQB_16...x216_192_56.avi

Thanks,

Picard

Hi,

Thanks for all the hard work on a fantastic media player - best one for ANY smartphone I reckon.

Anyway here are the results :-

v.0.04 :

GAPI - Perfect.

GDI - Perfect.

v.090 :

RAW Framebuffer - Picture freezes after about half a second, sound continues as normal.

GDI - Perfect.

v.091 :

GAPI - Perfect.

GDI - Perfect.

Keep up the good work.

Phishwak.

this is very strange. i got reports of buggy display with all three versions and considering the workaround 0.04 should be flickering.

with 0.090 in the first half seconds is there motion? maybe there is something else and this is not a GAPI issue afterall.

anybody else?

Hi,

I am by no means an expert, but I tested as follows:

v0.04

GAPI - Good

GDI - Good

v0.091

GAPI - Good

GDI - Good

The only thing that I found was that the first time I tried to play the file it seemed to be really bad. Fullscreen would not play whilst normal view was very stuttery, unfortunately subsequent playback is working fine and I cannot replicate the issue. I have removed the file off the card, reinstalled the software, but it all plays fine.

I am currently using DVD-to-Smartphone to encode Matrix Reloaded (standard settings - sharper picture) overnight, will playback in v0.04 and post with feedback of how this runs tomorrow.

Hope this is useful.

Cheers,

Stefan

Okay,

Encoded Matrix Reloaded overnight using DVD to Smartphone and set it to use the Sharper Picture settings (lower framerate, higher bitrate per frame) resulting in 167MB file for the complete movie.

Transferred it to the phone, and have since watched it (some of it) using Betaplayer v0.091 and it all seems fine. The audio is a little crackly but I think this is due to the encoding process and having the audio track set too loud.

I will note that at random times (possibly when messing with the settings or skipping through the movie) the playback will just turn to rubbish, really jerky with the audio running in the background. By exiting the Betaplayer and then reopening it the movie will then work fine.

I am by no means even close to being an expert, but there does not appear to be any difference between using GAPI or GDI, except possibly that GDI does not randomly deteriorate to jerky playback (cannot confirm this as I cannot accurately replicate the issue).

Have since reinstalled v0.04 and there does not appear to be any problems on my phone with this version either, so that probably doesn't help much.

Hope this is useful.

Cheers

I get that with version 0.04 too. Just downloading 0.091 to test that. Plus I find that Betaplayer doesn't like Xbar. Xbar stops working after I run Betaplayer on my C500.

I've had this problem a couple of times on the C500 too. The audio can be heard but the Video stops playing - like it's stuck :? When I exit and reload Betaplayer it's OK again.

Another thing I forgot to mention earlier. The backlight problem with Version 0.91 on the original SPV doesn't seem to occur on the C500 :)

I had the same picture lockup with continuing audio problem using GAPI and 0.091. I'm wondering if it is something to do with me running Xbar.

Well the backlight problem is still there with the SPV C500, when another song start, the light goes on for some seconds ... and this "suck" !

thanks for feedback. i think the video freeze is not related directly to gapi bug. there must a bug elsewhere in the player which is triggered by using gapi.

about backlight light goes on: how long does it go on? is it related to the backlight timeout or it's always just some seconds? probably it has to do with the cpu load, because the player can only disable backlight timeout, but can't turn the backlight on by itself (it's done by the OS).

(different problem: i'll check why xbar stops after betaplayer...)

I never had a problem with .0.91 until I did the ROM upgrade then I got Raw FrameBuffer: Device error! so I just downloaded 0.93 and get the same error. Just about to try the "stable" version.

OK just tried the stable version and it works but only lists .avi files not .mpg

Does the stable version not play mpegs? Is there a fix for the "unstable" version (am I doing something wrong)?

Thanks

0.04 doesn't support mpeg1 yet, but I think the problem is already found with the unstable. please try this test version: http://picard.exceed.hu/betaplayer/test/0.093g

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

All fixed now

What is the difference between the stable and unstable versions - the unstable version is brilliant! (thanks)

I'm using .093a (Unstable).

GDI is the Video Driver I use as the Raw FrameBuffer would stop showing video after a second or two. Sound would continue to work.

When using the Raw FrameBuffer driver the video would stop I could hit pause then play and the video would resume with sound for 1-2 seonds then the video would freeze again (sound continued).

I'm using a 5600, Divx 5.02, and VirtualDub.

Use 0.93g from the link above. No problems with it so far

Had the same problems with the freezing on the 5600, .093g fixed my issue as well.
