My C500 bluetooth Needs a Dentist :(

I too am having trouble with the bluetooth on the c500. I can discover people & they can discover me we can even pair devices but every time someone tries to send me anything the connection fails. As for sending files - I dont get any option to which is a bit of a let down (contacts, pictures, videos, ringtones, games etc).

I did phone orange CS & they passed me up the chain of tech support until the guy told me it didn't work because I had been trying to send / receive with nokias, sony-ericssons, Apple Macs, - aparently they all use different bluetooth. I explianed to him that bluetooth is a wireless standard so recieving files shouldn't be a problem no matter what the device. He continued to fob me off. As a note for Orange: there is nothing wrong with admitting you don't know or that it is a phone bug - I would much rather that than be fobbed off :)

If anyone can shed some light on this I would be most grateful becuase as I don't use Windows I can't acces the phone with the USB cable, I am hopeing I will be able to browse the phones file stucture from my laptop if I can establish a BT connetion.

After using bluetooth for 2 years with great effect on my sony-ericssons it is such a shame to hit a brick wall here. I am dying to get it working to see if I can use my SPV as a kind of bluetooth universal remote as I could with the T68i / T610

Thanks in advance from a confused newb.

The technology Bluetooth uses to send and receive data is standardized. Unfortunately the software is not. Bluetooth devices are configured to offer a series of services which are standardized. So a device with the OBEX File Transfer service (which you need to browse your device over bluetooth) will work with any other device with the same service installed.

Unfortunately Microsoft (i presume they are responsible for the bluetooth sw) failed to include a lot of what I would consider key services.

In using a Sony Ericsson you have experienced the true power of Bluetooth (Ericsson was the main developer until a few days ago) but unfortunately you'll have to settle for Microsoft's crippled version.

Yeah, there are problems that I've been trying to get past over the last few days.

I'm pretty sure the c500 can recieve anything via bluetooth, but the reason it's not saving it is because it's trying to save it to the phone memory, where, if you look carefully you only have about 1mb free so it gives up (without telling you).

I've had a look around to see if I can free up space on there, but alas, it's all program files and windows system stuff.

This is really annoying as I use linux and therefore can't use the usb cable with active sync etc... so I need bluetooth to xfer stuff.

Also, if anyone knows how to beam files from the c500, for god sakes reply as I can't for the life of me figure out how to! D'oh!

Also, anyone know of an SPV like irc chan?

I believe their is a third party explorer app that allows files to be sent bia bluetooth.. whether this is compatible with other phones, I have no idea..

I may try it later.. We have loads of bluetooth phones in work, so can try some compatibility tests..

so far all we've established,

C500 -> Nokia 6310 business card sending works..

C500 -> T610, nothing seems to work..

using smartexplorer, talked about here I can send files/images to a Z600/T610 etc.. so its a start..

Indeed, although I also have to praise Apple who built bluetooth support right into os X - the adress book features are great as is file sending & using the mobile as a makeshift modem (I could only ever get about 9kbs without gprs.

For the possible Mac users out there who may have a Sony-ericsson I will link the free software that lets you use your phone as a bluetooth remote. (it has proximity sensing so you can set it up to runs scripts or perform actions like start an Itunes playlist when you enter teh room & pause the song when you leave the room. Way way cool.

anyway it is recognisable under acessories under the Sony-Ericsson bluetooth menu.

Hopefully by posting this link someone might find out a way to get it working with the C500 or design a similar bluetooth app.

It's called Romeo & it's donationware - essentially freeware.

[WHITE]MODS: I hope this isn't considered spamming - I don't consider it to be - please advise if i am breaking rules. It's a great app & although not specifically fro the C500 it may inspire some one with the programming talents :)[/WHITE]

Sorry if I'm reproducing anyone else's reply - I'm just taking a quick look at this from work - but you need the SmartExplorer application from www.binarys.com, it will let you S&R files using BT.

syrus: Looks liek we are in the same boat together! I'm a Linux user too a well as os X. I think the odds of us getting support for this phone are slim to none :P

It would be cool if someone could work out a way to flash linux onto it. I must admit I'm not a big fan of Windows. I don't know how Windows Mobile is made up so am curious as to if it opens me up to a world of viruses & security holes which seem to go hand in hand with M$ Explorer.

Phil-t: I can't even send via bluetooth :D I don't get the option for pictures contacts or anything - even when I go via the file browser.

I will have to rty the alternate browser that has been suggested although I have no idea how I will get it onto the C500 in the first place.

I'm used to things just working - I forgot what a Windows world was like hehe :)

Thanks Andy, I'm going to try and download that to the C500 now if I can & hopefully install it from there.

Woo hoo - I have installed it! It's shareware though :)

I might pload the other apps I have got on m computer & see if I could download them from there if the BT still doesn't work

Excuse my barging in here but have you tried SynCE yet? I've not had a chance to try it yet but now that I have a C500 I will do in the near future. Also accept my apologies if this isn't the functionality that you're looking for in a linux/smartphone app.

SynCE, looks interesting. Need a bit of time to try and get it working though, what with various kernel modules and libs needed.

Heh, thanks alot for the link. I will be sure to take a look at that on my days off. :)

I have just ordered a 256mb miniSD card with SD adapter(£25) & a USB SD card reader so I should be able to get all m data on that way - but that link looks very useful.

I've just ripped the 1st series of BBC2's Coupling for the smart phone (mpeg4 for video & mp3 fpr sound) at >30mb an episode. I hope it plays though.

If not I will have to drop the folk at VLC an email & see if they wouldn't mind a Windows Mobile port of their play anything player (see link)
