Guest fallwood Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 I've just got my new c500 (very happy with it so far) so have given the missus my old mpx200, i wanted to be able to send her pictures etc by mms so flashed the ben 6-0940-024 2002 rom back onto the phone. Everything works fine apart from if i try to install mms from the original cd, if i try to create a new message it just freezes for a while and nothing happens, i cant even create a new sms message. If i remove the mms software sms works again. Any ideas anyone as the only reson i went back to 2002 was for the mms.
Guest martin Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Did you remember to install MMS to the phone memory ? It won't work if it's saved to the SD card  Note: Use Settings-Remove programs to delete it.
Guest fallwood Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Yep, installed it to phone memory, not had any of the homescreen problems mentioned just doesnt seem to work at all, this is the version I got on the cd supplied with my phone , it says motorola mms in the installed programs list.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Check the file structure, are the folders called IPSM and Storage card etc? The problem you are having is the same as installing it to the storage card so it could be the app is looking in the wrong section :?
Guest fallwood Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I found the generic rom and flashed it, everything works fine now so i assume it must be a problem with the new version i flashed, are their any drawbacks with using the generic motorola rom.

What version was that generic ROM (Message to Mods -> I'm not asking for a link, just a version)? Was it a 'ben' thing? I've not been able to get MMS to work with any version that I've managed to get!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 The generic ROM is also ilegal as it was the test ROM that was leaked from moto
Guest TANKERx Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 The generic ROM is also ilegal as it was the test ROM that was leaked from moto I know and accept that. It's just that since making the mistake of installing the 2K3 ROM (Doh!), I've been trying to find a good 2K2 one and now that I'm stuck with an illegal ROM, no matter what I do, I'd may as well try and get an illegal one that works eh? Nobody send me links, just please, if you can, tell me the version number you're using with MMS running and I'll find the ROM myself. Thanks
Guest fallwood Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Seems to me that the issue of getting your phone back to normal is a bit of a farce, imagine buying a pc its ok for a while then something goes wrong and you don't have a backup os to reinstall on it, if that was the case id just go to my local computer shop and buy a copy of xp, why cant this be done with our phones. If windows mobile worked right in the first place people wouldn't need to mess about with the roms, just look at how many updates are done to windows yet these are freely available to people who have purchased a legal copy. Are we not also buying license for the software when we purchase a phone as you do when you buy a pc with windows pre-installed. Im seriously thinking of moving away from windows based phones as the software support is practically non existent. Before I started flashing roms myself I had to have 2 mpx200's replaced after the software crashed and would not boot, imagine if you had to take your pc to the shop every time xp needed reinstalling. Anyway enough of the ranting just upset at the amount of time it took me to get my phone back to normal because of the resrictions on discussing the roms and where to find them (not a dig at the modaco site).
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 There is not really anything wrong with the 2002 OS and the MPX200 is the most stable phone around that uses the OS.It's just that people see a new shiny OS and all jump on the upgrade band wagon and then realise that it's not all it's cracked up to be. You cannot really complain about going back to 2002 as the ROM image is not accessable and would not need reinstalling, unless you ilegally chose to alter it (which you did) The problems you have had in the past are to do with the phonebattery and not OS related, as any OS problems can be fixed by doing a Hard Reset.
Guest fallwood Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 The problems you have had in the past are to do with the phonebattery and not OS related, as any OS problems can be fixed by doing a Hard Reset. Not always on one of the occasions that my phone was replaced i was told by the engineer that the rom image had been corrupted and no amount of hard resetting would fix it, only reinstalling the rom would cure the problem. I know i shouldn't have upgraded in the first place and like you say everybody jumps at the mention of a new os but i just think it would be nice to have a backup of the original os included on the cd. In future i will stick to official updates and would advise others to do the same.
