Guest leo-balou Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I have just received an email from Tomtom to advise that the eagerly anticipated Sat Nav software for the Smartphone has now been released to dealers across Europe. Quote "TomTom MOBILE i shipping at this time to dealers throughout Europe. Only these models in this website will be supported at first and your model is not among those: http://www.tomtom.com/products/compatibili...23&Language=1" I have a C500 not the E200 which it says it won't support. As far as I can see the only difference is the size of the SD card. Surely if the application files were copied to a mini-SD it would work the same :?: If anyone out there wants to shell out the cash and test this out I, for one, would be greatly appreciative. :)
Guest Saracen Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I also read on GPS Passion, that the software will only support the TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver that comes in the kit. WHy not sell the software separately to let people with other receivers buy it?
Guest the_ugly_north Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 It seems that it is up for sale at approx 299 euro thingies which is about £200 (which includes bluetooth GPS). That is not a bad price. I am with leo-balou as soon as someone has tested it, I will get it!
Guest leo-balou Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I have just read a review on CoPilot Live for Smartphones - tested and running well on a C500 - this could be a good alternative to Tomom Mobile. Check out this review: http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/mobile...39165887,00.htm or the software house home page: http://www.alk.eu.com/ Costs seem a bit high however
Guest the_ugly_north Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 £300! Jeez you can nearly buy a tom-tom enabled PDA with GPS solution for that if you shop around!!!
Guest leo-balou Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Yes but remember that is RRP - most likely you can knock a good £50 off that when it starts hitting the market.
Guest the_ugly_north Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Any comparison between co-pilot and tomtom? (pda one for example?)
Guest leo-balou Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Spoke to Handnav who said the software on the PDA version is excellent therefore he presumes that the Smartphone version will be just as good. He advises that the software is not due in to stockists until the 25th Sept. For those that have a preview copy perhaps some comparisons can be made. I have Tomtom Navigator on my PDA phone and it is great - not the easiset to use - but once its running the directions and graphics are brilliant. The guy from handtec said that the Tomtom Mobile will most likely run on the C500 - just that no one has tested it. Come on - someone - do a review for us!!!
Guest leo-balou Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Yes I saw this a fews ago - I think he's running on an E200 - not C500.
