Canary Screen. I did the procedure but it did not reboot!!

Hi

I bought the smartphone over the net and the previous owner said that he had been using it with AT&T.

Anyway, here is what happend. When I first tried to turn it on, I got the annoying you-can't-do-nothing canary screen.

I found this site by chance and I read the instructions about how to get rid of the canary screen.

I did exactly the following steps:

1/open the battery compartment and take the battery off

2/wait a few seconds and put the battery back into the compartment

3/press simultaneously the power button and the record button alltogether until you get a grey screen saying "press any key"

4/as the message appears, release simultaneously both power and record keys and press at the center of the joystick until a grey screen appears

5/another grey screen with lines numbered up to 8 will appear;

6/use the joystick to go down to line 8 and validate

7/Be patient as it is going to take a while until all apps arez restored from the rom and loaded bacjk into the phone;

The problem is that after I did step 6 ( validating line 8 ) I got the following message:

Erase ISPM

Flash Identify OK

INTEL 28F128J3A found

Flash erase OK

and at the bottom of the screen there is a blue bar with the word PASSED written on it.

Now,

1)) If I hit the joystick botton it will go back to the main 8-lines menu and then swith off after 10-15 minutes.

2)) If I did not do anything, it will stay as it is forever (I did that before going to bed and in the morning the same message is smiling to me)

Now I am totally frustrated and I am desprate for help. Please answer fast if yo could.

And by the way, now the phone does not work off the battery, I have to use the cord to get it to work. One more thing, the cellphone does not connect to laptops or PCs (All necessary softwares installed).

When you got 'Flash erase OK' you should just need to press and hold the power button for approx 5 seconds and the phone SHOULD boot up. The initital bootup usually takes several minutes after a hard reset.

I'm not sure if allows you to boot up only with the charger. You might have to insert the battery and the charger at the same time.

Hopefully your battery is not faulty :?

I did what you told me to do. I am still getting the ugly "Canary Screen." :shock:

After I get the "flash erase OK" message I pressed the power button for 5 seconds. The phone went back to the "press anykey to enter bootloader" screen :x and then switched to "Canary Screen." :cry:

Can you help??? :cry:

Try taking the SD card out and trying again.

If that don't work then you will probably have to re-load the ROM. What ROM are you using ?

I did not have the SD card in while I was hard resetting the phone. Anyway, I have only a dummy SD card and it was always out.

I don't know what the ROM is and how to reload it. :wink:

What brand of phone is it ? i.e. Orange SPV, Imate or Qtek.

What model of phone (Tanager or Voyager) . Does it have the internal camera and bluetooth ?

Can you remember the applications on the phone. Did it have Orange backup and Orange update or did it have IAstyle applications like IA File manager and IA album ?

All what i know is this

it is a microsoft smartphone

imate

it has windows 2002 installed in it.

I don't know anything elas because since I bought it on line I could not get it to work.

Ok so it's a imate smartphone :)

You will need to download the latest Imate smartphone ROM. I'm sure you can find it on the net somewhere but since you actually have an imate you can download it from http://www.clubimate.com/

You will need to become a member and fill in your details including the phones IMEI number. The IMEI number can be found on the phone (take battery off and look under the SIM) :wink:

Once you are a member you can go to Support-Device support and download the imate-smartphone update (not imate smartphone2).

To run the update, put the phone in canary mode. It will say SERIAL on the canary screen which should change to USB when conencted to the USB cable. Then just run the ROM update from the PC. I think you need 98, WIN200 or XP (not windows ME).

Let us know if you have any problem getting the ROM.

Did I tell you that I tried connecting my cellphone to the laptop but it did not work??? Do I need to worry about that??????

Finally I have my cellphone working. :) :lol:

Now i have tiny little problems here:

1) Once I unplug the charging cardle, the phone switches automatically to the "Car" profile where I can not make calls properly. How can I get it back to the "normal" profile again??

2) Is there any way I can extend the available memory and/or storage?

3) I transfer a file from my laptop to the cellphone. How can I find it?? (It's a song)

1, using a magnifying glass check the terminals on the phones connector as you may have a pin shorting out.

2, Only by using a larger storage card

3, You need an app like Smart Explorer from www.binarys.com

Welcome to the site,

Try rerunning the update again but before you do leave the phone plugged into the computer and turned on. Next reboot the computer

then turn off your firewall if you have one running. Now try the update again.

If this then fails to work try the update on another computer.
