Upgraded AT&T mpx200 to wm2003 while SIM-locked anyone?

Has anyone tried or succeeded in upgrading the mpx200 (in my case the AT&T one) with the wm2003 roms that are floating around *WITHOUT* SIM unlocking it first?

I really don't mind my SIM lock and don't want to shell out the money to unlock it, but I want to upgrade to wm2003. Is the SIM-unlocking the mpx200 first *ABSOLUTELY* neccassary???

Upgrading will not be effected by the SIM lockunlocking process

Works Fine!
