No Hard Reset

I'm passing my E100 down to my son, but I cannot get it to hard reset.

All I get, after pressing the voice note and power button, is a white screen saying card found, then a message saying 'press any key to enter bootloader' but all it does then is go to the tri-colour screen, no matter what I press.

The memory card is formatted and empty.

What am I doing wrong???

Even though it says 'Press any key', you actually have to press and hold down the action key (centre joypad) and NOT press any other key :?
