Guest FosterJ Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Anyone know a way to send video recordings over MMS?
Guest lutzh Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 hi buddy, actual rom does not support this but it will come soon with an orange rom update. just wait abit and you'll get your solution. cheers, lutz
Guest Chaser81 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Below is a copy of an article (by me!) which I posted on coolsmartphone.com. Reproduced here for your pleasure: Video Messaging on SPV C500 By Chaser81 When I first got my SPV C500 I loved it to pieces. Still do, but the one moan about it I had was that their was no in-built support for Video messaging via MMS. Since many new phones that are being released these days have this feature I felt this was an oversight by HTC. Never to be outdone, however, I have come up with a work around for it which seems to work fine. In order for this to work, you will need a copy of SmartExplorer, the excellent file management program for Smartphone. I am sure Gears can provide a link. 1) Go to your camera application and change the capture mode to Video, then press options. 2) Choose "modes", which is option 5, and change the format that the recorder uses to H.263. Scroll down slightly and then tick the box that says "Limit File Size To:" and in the box beneath it type in "95kb" 3) Press done and return to the video capture screen. Record your video. Should be about ten seconds or so because of the file size limit. 4) Once done, come out of the camera application and start SmartExplorer. 5) In SmartExplorer, navigate to StorageMy Documents where you should find your video clip in ".3gp" format. Highlight it and select the left softkey which should say "File". A menu will appear, from which you should select the option to "Send File" followed by "Send via MMS/Email". 6) You should now be taken to your inbox application. Select "Media Messaging" which should be the top application on your list, this will automatically start a new MMS message with the .3gp file as an attachment!! Type a message above it if you wish and select the recipient, and send. Done!! Your friend should recieve the MMS with the video without issue as long as they have a Video messaging phone on a compatible network. Incidentally, if they send you one back, the built in MMS client will display the message with the video as an attachment which you can select. Doing so will automatically start playback of the video in the phone's Multimedia album application. Edit: IGNORE ALL THIS CRAP ABOVE. Have figured out what the problem is, see my post below.
Guest FosterJ Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Blimey, nice one Chaser. Gonna give that a go. Will report back. Hope orange sort it out as standard like lutz says. J
Guest lutzh Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 they will for sure! cheers, lutz
Guest crafty Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I also noticed that if you start a new MMS, press Menu>Insert>Video you can select any .3gp movies you have recorded. Just a shame that you can't do it the other way around after recording a vid but at least it cuts out having to faff with Smart Explorer. I've not actually tried sending a vid message yet this way but it looks to attach it the same as smart explorer does.
Guest FosterJ Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Tried Chasers method and Crafty's method (Menu/Insert/Video) neither of which I can get to work. I keep getting undeliverable messages back! Trying to resolve this with Chaser offline. Again will report back if we get it to work. Any other ideas in the meantime?
Guest Chaser81 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Okay, THIS IS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET VIDEO MESSAGES TO SEND: 1) Go to the CAMERA application, change the capture mode to VIDEO. 2) Go to OPTIONS and MODES and change the capture mode from MPEG4 to H.263. Change the file size limit beneath this option to 95kb. Press DONE. 3) Record a video clip. 3) Exit CAMERA application and go to your MESSAGING application, go to MMS and select NEW. 4) Press OPTIONS, INSERT and ADD VIDEO. 5) The video clip you recorded should be displayed along with the option to record a fresh one. Select the pre-recorded one and choose DONE. 6) Put in your recipients number or email and then SEND. It would appear that the C500 DOES have inbuilt support for Video via MMS, but only if the file format for the video is .3gp. If your camera is set to record to MPEG4 then THE OPTION TO ADD A VIDEO TO AN MMS WILL NOT APPEAR. If this is the case, simply change the file type through the camera application to H.263, this will record your videos in 3gp format from then on. As you can see, this is a lot easier than my earlier way, and does not require you to have SmartExplorer.
Guest Dr Who Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 why the 95kb limit? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest hawkwindz2000 Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 i followed your suggestions as to what u have put and when the video is sent the recipient also on a s500 tells me that he dosent recieve the attachment..also if u run from the menu the prog to see if it works it dosent...any suggestions...
Guest Chaser81 Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 The 95kb size limit is because Orange (and indeed most networks) limit the file size allowed for MMS to roughly 100kb, which is 10 seconds of video with sound. Hawkwindz, I am having this problem too, dont know why, but it will send without error, and a message will be recieved by the recipient, but without attachment. I believe this is an issue with Orange, but the instructions on how to send one given above are correct. I am open to suggestions also?
Guest fozzie Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Haven't had a chance to actually test your method with my C500. Currently, I've just been recording in H.263 format and then renaming the file extension from .3gp to .jpg. This has been working fine. (This was posted by someone else in another thread - apologies but I can't remember by whom!)
Guest hawkwindz2000 Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 fozzie if u rename the extension does the recipient still have t he option to view as video?
Guest fozzie Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Yep. Well it works on the E200 & C500 at least. Even though it's named .jpg, Windows Media player fires up and plays the video fine when the attachment is clicked. :)
Guest hawkwindz2000 Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 fozzie..it sems if i do all as u say and rename extension to jpg and mms myself it works well..however when sending the same message to another c500(i.e my bro) he dosent recieve the attachment...any clues mate?
Guest fozzie Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Can he MMS himself video attachments? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Dr Who Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 So I was playing with this yesterday. If I sent an MMS with a .3gp attatchment the message would send (i.e. says message sent and then you see the GPRS signal come on for a bit - why didn't they keep the old E100 MMS send screen????) but I would receive NO notification of arrival. I tried sending to myself and to a different C500 and there was never a message received saying I had been sent an MMS. If I MMS'd a .jpg then it worked fine. I could send a video ONLY by renaming it to .jpg, when the MMS sent fine. So this begs the question, is Orange unable to send .3gp attatchments?
Guest Chaser81 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 I think you can send them. I have sent myself a .3gp video attachment, and it sends okay (GPRS comes on, message is in my outbox, then after a while disappears - would seem to indicate sending), but when the message is received, phone says I have a new MMS, but upon opening it, there is no attachment. Seems to be a bug with the C500 and receiving video attachments, no?
Guest Dr Who Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 See, I don't even get a message saying that I have a new MMS waiting. Nada. Zip. Nothing. The C500 CAN receive video attatchments if you rename them to .jpg so it shouldn't be a problem. I suspect the problem is with the O service.
Guest hawkwindz2000 Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 ok guys here is how i managed to suss out sending a video via mms 1.select CAMERA 2. press MENU select OPTIONS then MODES 3.CAPTURE MODE set to VIDEO:ENCODER set to H.263:RESOLUTION 176x144 then tick limit video size to 95kb 4.back space out back to camera screen 5. IN CAMERA select MENU:CAPTURE MODE:select VIDEO 6.capture 10 secs of video 7. Press HOME 8.START then select SMART EXPLORER 9.Select STORAGE CARD : my DOCUMENTS: MY VIDEOS then highlight the video file it will end in 3gp. 10 with file highlighted press FILE:RENAME 11. change 3gp extension to jpg then click done 12.with the file highlighted as jpg click the central rocker to play video..as it plays click STOP then select THUMBNAILS 12 the stored video file will be thumbnailed 13. Press MENU then SEND and select via MMS 14. the media message will open..you will not see the video file there but it is attached so just fill in the to box and subject...ignore the select pic etc part as ur vid file is hidden there..add the text at the bottom and send it 15.VOILA it should work...try sending it to urself first and u will see that the jpg appears..click on it and the file plays... Best i could come up with at this stage if anyone has an easier fix then please share regards all
Guest hawkwindz2000 Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 with regards to sending 3gp it just wont have it..i have tried til i have gone bonkers..u have to send them for the time being as jpg...
Guest Dr Who Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 Like I say, I think it must be a problem with Orange transferring the file - my phone seems to open the MMS gateway OK and the longer the video the longer the GPRS stays connected, so it is definitely sending the data. I just never receive it. Send with a "jpg" attatched and fine. Don't think anything you do on the phone will change this. Might phone Orange today and bother them with this.
