Guest SJSpencer Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Hi ppl This is a question about the power from the usb port and is there a way to ask the phone not to charge the battery when connected. As if you are always connecting to the PC it may affect the battery and may produce a memory affect as the battery is not drained before charging and resultin gin poor battery life? So is there a way just to connect the phone to the PC and not charge the battery to? Cheers again Ste
Guest Richie M Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 The SPV family of phones have Li-ion Batteries, which do not suffer from the "memory effect". But, no there isnt a way to disable charging, afaik
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Li-ion batteries prefer to be topped up than fully discharged, unlike Ni-cd and Ni-mh batteries. As long as you are not constantly only connecting for a few minutes and charging for a few hours at a time you will not have a problem as the memory effect is much less pronounced. It is always recomended that you replace your battery yearly (who actually does this :?) but as I said do not be tempted to try and fully discharge the battery, as apart from probably c causing a partial reset on the phone you will also damaged the internal circuitry of the battery.
