I noticed on Friday (after I had to do my first hard reset - 2 weeks with handset and data connections got corrupted after a freeze - and I couldn't add them in again without error messages.) .. that a new update was available for download after doing a routine check.

First of many hopefully......

Is it just me, or does the E200 homescreen run just as slow on the C500 as it used to on the E200? The new Orange Homescreen is much faster!

Call me biased, but the E200 homescreen has to do a lot more painting on the screen so its bound to take longer.

This is limited by the speed of the windows GDI appi's.

Also the E200 screen itself pretends to be an entire homescreen so that it can selectively host and display other plugins in the layout. I believe Dr Blo has done some work with this quite some time ago.

The extra communication and proxying this entails also takes time.

So yes the new homescreen for C500 will behave in a snappier manner.

The dll is already on the device as it provides services for the new homescreen as you will see by looking at the layout xml and checking which dll [privdes thpse classid's.

So all you need to do is find someone in another country who has installed the update and ask them to send youe thelayout xml file that was installed to storageapplicationdatahome

of course the 4 portal links will be wrong but you can edit those anyway.

The main change in the C500's E200 homescreen xml is the way in which it specifies selecting items from a menu with the keys attribute for some menu items, it now uses a # notation to indicate selection of a particular menu item - this is to cover cases where large fonts are enabled andso some menu items may be in a different place.
