Guest Exploited Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Hi, I previously owned a Nokia 7650 that I bought an eXpansys USB Car Charger Adaptor for. According to the eXpansys-site this USB-charger-thingy is compatible with many Nokia, Sony/Ericsson phones and it seems to be compatible with PalmOne- and iPAQ-machines. Is USB-charging universal and would I be able to use the USB-cable for my SPV C500 for charging using this adapter?
Guest meatgrinder Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 should be compatible m8, Dave
Guest Croccy22 Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 It might not be. i have a cig lighter to usb adapter thing that i plug the usb cable into to charge my gps. it works ok for that. works fine fo the mpx200 but the c500 won't charge from it. maybe different pin outs. Matt
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 As discussed on irc USB are designed for 5v so just plug your cable into the car USB adaptor and you will be fine :) Charge time will be dependant on the mA output of the unit as car USB units vary. I use two different models for charging phones, ppc and gps units when I use a split cable for more than one device I have to make sure I use the higher rated charger otherwise charging is either very slow or non existant.
Guest Exploited Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Thx...I feel safe just giving it a try and see what happens... Not that I will need a charger in my car that often now that I have the SPV C500.
Guest Djarid Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 It doesn't work guys. I don't have a clue why, it is definitely not pin layout though, there are only 4 pins on USB: 2 for data and 2 for power. If the layout was different it would not be able to communicate with your computer. Note: If you try charging off a computer that does not have the driver installed, the phone will also not charge.
Guest Croccy22 Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 I expect that when the phone is connected via usb the driver probably tells it that it is ok to charge or something. Therefore no driver, no signal sent and the c500 won't accept charge from the cable. As to why HTC decided to implement this I have no idea, But I expect someone thought it was great. Whether they have plans to release usb devices for the phone maybe and this modification was neaded to get that to work properly? Matt
Guest simonbratt99 Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 Ive seen some USB cables with a physical switch (either 1. charge, or 2. usb connect and charge), i wondered why, but now it would seem that it would be for charging regardless of the software (matt? what nice flowing hair you have darling)
Guest Croccy22 Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 why thankyou sweetie. Just a photo of my girlfriend (In my dreams) This one time at bandcamp :) Matt
Guest RikF Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 I have no idea how they are preventing charging from non-driver installed machines but they are! I can only assume there is something in the charger which sends the 'you can charge from me' signal to the phone. Most annoying 'cos I use a mains-usb converter with international adapters to charge everything else I have. It kicks out 1 amp which is the same as the supplied charger but absolutely nothing from the phone :) Looks like I'm going to have to carry the adapter around with me RikF
