C500 and MP3 Playback quality with Headphones

Hi...Am impressed by the C500...am really dissapointed by the number of people with faults with their phones :) ...really confused about whether or not I should just wait for the HTC feeler (with thumb joystick) to arrive.

Anyway, I "was" going to buy a SX1 primarily due to its excellent MP3 playback..I'm currently using an SL45 with 256mmc and the reason I still have it is because I've been waiting for a phone that could meet the SL45 in the mp3 playback game...and so far a lot of the phones have been utter crap.

Can someone tell me what the C500 is like for mp3 playback using the headphones...I'm not interested in the speakphone playback...if someone has used an SL45 in the past and compare it to that then that would be great, otherwise can people please comment on the volume and how dynamic the sound is...i.e. is it clear, is their some bass..ect.

Thinking about ordering online and getting this deal:

£25 - 120min any, 60 txtx, 1MB GPRS, 1 game

£50 - credit

Double calls for first 6 months?

Does that sound right...it sounds almost too cheap...can you order over the phone and still get the online deals?

Thanks all.. love the site.. love the info . cheers

in my opinion the spv c500 mp3 quality with headphones are awesome

even the original spv impressed me

the quality is very clear and sharp

with pocketmusic program you can make the quality very bassy or very treble

its really loud too and NEVER DISTORTS

ive not seen any complaints about headphone playback quality on any spv

if you want my advice, the c500 is a great phone, yes we do moan, but we want perfection and no phone is that yet

hope this helps

bye

I agree with that last comment, the standard headphones are okay but the Sony ones pictured above are awesome. I bought a pair ages ago and use them exclusively on my C500 now with an adaptor I got from an Ipaq 1940's box. Good combo!

I'm currently using an SL45 with 256mmc and the reason I still have it is because I've been waiting for a phone that could meet the SL45 in the mp3 playback game...

Firstly: wow i'm impressed the SL45 supports the 256mb considering how old it is! i thought i'd maxed out my old SL45 with a 128mb card (technically a SL45i, hurrah for dodgy ROM images floating around at the time). I used that phone for a year and a half before upgrading to the original SPV when it was first released

sound wise, i could never tell any difference between the SL45 and original SPV hardware, ditto for the C500. The quality of the sound depends on the headphones.

and like someone else suggested, buy a copy of pocketmusic to get bass boost, a graphic equaliser and OGG file support (i find OGG files sound far better than MP3s, especially at lower bitrates)

As far as the heaphones go, they're not too bad, but i find them uncomfortable. untill i can save a bit of money to buy a new adapter and heaphones, i'm using bits off a broken sony set to improve them :)

Thanks alot for your replies guys.. greatly appreciated. Will probably buy sometime this week. Can I use my £50 towards Orange Care...by the sounds of it this phone will probably need it. Does Orange Care replace a phone with dust underneath the screen? Thanks again..

SL45 IMO was so far ahead of all the other crap that continually got released years after it...I've never been impressed by Camera phones and can never imagine taking a dinky photo on a Phone (including the C500!)...The SL45 definately supports up to 512mb (and I think 1gig) however, you need FW12 to support it...I use it everyday for hours (and I'm still using the original battery)...

Hey! Another SL45 question... can the C500 record phonecalls like the SL45...that was really cool and came in handy when someone was giving directions, or spelling out something for you. Can the C500 record phonecalls also? I suppose if it doesnt a third party program would make it able to do that hey?

thanks

woaaaahhhhhhhh there ppl, im going to have to disagree the windows media player and it seems other applications throws a "tss" sound every 14 secs with the c500. its very annoying and so far it seems it cant be fixed, dont throw away your mp3 player just yet. ps if any one has a decent solution that doesnt involve converting mp3 to other formats or bitrate plz post!!

erm must be you mate.. i dont get any other sound from my c500 except whats playing ... most of my mp3 are no higher than 192 and as i say their fine and TBH who records higher than 192 and if they do why???

I do get a single stutter at the start of any sound files that WMP plays but I can live with it (for the moment)... tried Pocketmusic but it just hangs the C500.

Djarid, thats because the phone lights up the screen when a new track plays (and so causes the playback to stutter once), annoying i know, would be cool to be able to tunr that on and off, cos sometimes its cool to glance at the phone and you can see the track, but if its in your pocket why would you need to see it?

as for the 'tss' sound people are mentioning, i dont get that sound at all

If I play any MP4 audio files through PVplayer it does a little skip (only once) after a few seconds into the song but if I play the same files though Multimedia Album, it plays them fine :? No 'tss' though :)

It doesn't seem to be bitrate-related as I get it both with my e-books (at 48 or 64kbps) and with songs from my library (at various bitrates). It occurs with both MP3- and WMA-files and with Media Player and PocketMusic.

I've also noticed it with Ogg Vorbis files on betaplayer

Its frustrating but I think I can live with it

I've also recently noticed that 'tss' sound when i play music on my C500.

You have to listen carefully for it at first, but once you notice it, it will aggravate you to on end!

I sure hope that it is a software issue that can be fixed via an update rather than a hardware issue.

It's pretty sad that the music playback quality of my original SPV is better than the C500!
