SmartFilter not switching back after time

Anyone use SmartFilter to block callers?

I have a profile which is set to come on at 8pm, to block some callers, and then switch off again at 8am. It switches on OK, but it doesn't switch back after the exipry time.

I have a few profiles, but only the one called "No OOH" is set to come on at certain times. It's set like this:

Automatic activation = Yes

Active = No restrictions

Valid = Always

From = 20:00

Until = 08:00

I have SmartProfile turned on, and I've tried making the From time earlier than the Until time, but no luck with getting it to turn off.

If anyone has a profile that turns off after it's time has expired can they post the settings here please pretty please!

I've worked out what is happening...

The filter profile IS changing, but the profile shown on the screen is not updated UNTIL a phone call is received.

Presumably this is because SmartFilter checks which profile is current at the time of the incoming call, and then updates as necessary.

Constant updating would be a large overhead, so this method makes sense, but I've asked the developers if the profile could also be updated when the application is opened

I've also wondered this, I have a profile which I want to come on when I'm in work. I put my bookings (I'm not a prostitute) in calendar, and I only want family and colleagues to be allowed to call. Then, when the booking / appointment in calendar ends, I want it to revert back to Standard profile (everyone accept withheld numbers).

It changes ok but it still shows my working profile way after my calendar states I am no longer busy.

Also Chris, are your contacts in +44 of 07 format? I have one good friend but can be slightly annoying at times, he still manages to get through at times even though when I double check he's blocked. Just wondered if the fault lies with the format - or do you have problems with mobile calls not get blocked?

@ferret

The profile *should* be right, but it just doesn't show it. Go into SmartFilter and select the profile you want manually, or just call your own phone and hang up.

My contacts are a bit of both (+44 and 07) I've just tested it and it works both ways - doesn't matter what format you use to store the number. Have you checked your "friends" number? maybe he's calling from another phone or something.

Nah, he only got one phone, that brick flip thing on 3 so it'll always just come from one number. Will check it out, maybe he wasn't blocked and the profile name wasn't updating. I've got version 1.1 if that helps.

Yeah, I've got v1.1 as well.

Maybe there is something about Calling Line Identification on 3 (or other networks)

I only tested it on Orange-to-Orange calls, but I don't have a problem with Voda CLI (not sure about the other networks)

What you could do is get him to call you, save the number in a new contact, block the new contact and get him to try calling again. It might get obvious that you're trying to block his calls though! :)

The other thing to note is that my numbers do not have spaces in them. I think Outlook syncs the numbers in the same format that they are saved as in Outlook - so potentially if your Outlook contact has spaces in the number that will be sync'd as is and that *might* be causing the problem.

I think I know what's happening now.

I have the following profiles

Standard

Not going out

Contacts only

No work

Family only

Working

The only automated switching I have is on 'Working'

Automatic Activation ticked

Active: Calendar Busy

Valid: Always

from: 12:00AM until: 12:00AM

This works fine and when I am in work (I put all shifts as busy in calendar) the profile changes accordingly.

When I finish work, the phone still shows profile as being Working, but as you've found out it actually switches back (Standard in my case - I think).

When smartprofile is active and I change profiles manually, SmartFilter changes the profile name but remains in Standard mode.

In other words,

I went to work > phone changed to Working profile

finished work > phone changed back to Standard profile (but still indicating Working)

I manually changed the phone to Not Going Out (and blocked person X)

Person X rang but got through because phone was still checking Standard

I've also noticed, using a e200 on the latest ROM (2.7) I now get the Incoming Call screen very briefly and thus a missed call indication. The ringtone doesn't have enough time to kick in though.

I hope I've made sense, I've given myself a headache writing this. :)

The key to the first bit is that SmartFilter looks at the profiles when a call comes in and checks what (if any) profiles apply at that time.

It should switch back to Standard (the default profile) if no other automatic profile applies at the time of the call. So parts 1 and 2 of your "In other words" section are correct.

SmartProfile is the key to the second bit...

Now when you changed to "Not Going Out" it lets you do that, but as you still have SmartProfile ticked it still looks at your Calendar and selects the profile that applies at that time (ignoring the manual selection you made). It thinks: "Ah, a call. Nothing in the calendar so Working doesn't apply, and no other timed profiles set so Standard profile applies"

What you need to do is either:

(1) Set your "Not going out" profile to be active when your Calendar is "Free" (can't remember what the setting options are, but it's something like that), but that will mean "Not going out" is ALWAYS active if you're not at work, or...

(2) Select "Not going out" manually when appropriate, and turn off SmartProfile (otherwise it will look at your Calendar again and switch back to Standard)

It depends on whether, by default, you want it to accept calls from your friend when you're not at work, or reject those calls. If you "don't go out" more than you "do go out" then option 1 is probably best, otherwise option 2!

Complicated enough?

Oh, and the ringing thing...

When a call is blocked it does show the incoming call screen and does ring once at the callers end, but doesn't ring at your end. I like it that way, but I can see how some people might not.

Ah, what about this:

Option 3

When you know you don't want to go out create a new Calenda entry "not going out" to run for the rest of the night, and set it to "out of office" (or any of the other status types that you don't normally use). Then turn your "Not going out" profile into an automated profile to fire when you have a Calendar entry that is "out of office".

That way you don't have to change profiles manually, or remember to switch SmartProfile on and off (which you might forget about), and you can prove to the wife that you dont go out as much as she thinks! :)
