Guest Chaser81 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Okay, I want to know if anyone has tried this on a C500 screen yet, or indeed any earlier model SPVs, and if it works okay. For those of you that dont know, Displex is a fluid used for "polishing" the scratches off of plastic screens. My C500's screen seems to scratch really easily and over the last few weeks I have accumulated a number of light scratches which I want to remove. Do you think Displex would work, and is it a good idea to try it?
Guest Chaser81 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 26 Views of the post and not one person has an idea? Come on guys....
Guest peekie Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 the stuff is ok but it does melt the screen its the type of cleaner you use if its so bad or just before you put on a screen protector ,just be carefull with it on silver or orange logos as these come off
Guest Pinga Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 well, if Displex is a fluid used for "polishing" the scratches off of plastic screens, I think it should be safe to try it on the plastic screen of your C500.
Guest carl_donaldson Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Either I didnt do it properly or the stuff is not very good - my screen was really scratched after only 10 days so used displex - Now I have a cloudy, matt patch in the middle of my screen. Thinking about an insurance ooops i dropped my phone job as Orange shop said it wasnt a failure of equipment. Might give it another try now actually - I have recently bought pda screen protectors and they wont stick not sure if this is a result or me just being rubbish. Carl Anyone else out there had similar results?
Guest the_ugly_north Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Carl, I hope you get caught out if you do the insurance claim  Displex works fine with no problems if the *instructions* are followed. It takes light applications several times.
Guest hbfair Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Carl, I hope you get caught out if you do the insurance claim  Displex works fine with no problems if the *instructions* are followed. It takes light applications several times. I keep my lovely new c500 in a separate pocket from keys, coins, etc. and it still gets scratched! I tried Displex last night and it just resulted in lots of smaller scratches around the original one. Perhaps I need some more applications or maybe I polished to hard. Just to warn others that Displex isn't a cure-all. I'm going back to the Orange shop today to see what they say. I can understand scratches appearing if people don't take care of their phone but if you can damage it just by storing it in a pair of jeans that's a different matter. It is supposed to be a *mobile* phone, after all...
Guest dvl Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Had an sx1 siemens here last week.. it was really badly scratched and this guy kinda gave it to me (50 euro's i payed). So i bought Displex, and started to scrub scrub scrub.. looked and scratch was gone but a big round circle had apeared around the scratch (seems i rubbed away a hole layer or so). So clever me started to rub away more so that the whole top layer was gone in the screen area (used masking tape to create edges whilst rubbing). The phone looked like new again.. only if you looked very well you could see the edge around the screenarea. Sold the SX1 after that with a "tiny" profit hehe I do have a question though!! Anyone tried that displex on the orange logo? what happens?? i noticed the orange logo is printed on top and should be removable.. but bit to chicken to try it myself yet, bit worried that the black will ehum dissolve. hehe
Guest hbfair Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Ah... so these screens are built up of several layers of plastic, and you use the Displex to erode the damaged top layer until you get to the scratch-free layer beneath? That explains the extra scratches, then - I haven't finished clearing off the damaged layer. I'll try it again tonight and see what happens. Cheers!
Guest dvl Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 that is what i meant.. for the SX1 that is.. should be the same for the C500 if i read you story right hehe.. I removed the orange logo too .. but problem is that the black gets shiney.. maybe gonna use commander (car scrub stuff) and make it a little less shiney hehe.. Greetz DvL
Guest jwb Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 I applied displex. To my horror it went all cloudy like some of the above messages but I continued with a few more applications and it appeared to get better. I'm electrician so I'm always in dusty environments on building sites etc so my spv always gets worn in some way but I think this displex stuff (with continual use) could become useful. I'm just waiting for dust to get in now!??! p.s I guess I should get one of those tough nokia or siemens phones but they suck! SPV C500 Rules as did all the other spv version :)
Guest sparkisgti Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 i used it on my e200 and couldnt believe the results.. the screen looked so clear again was very happy with it.. you really do have to rub it hard for a long time.. dont just do it for like 30seconds no where near long enough so thats a thumbsup from me :)
