Guest xerxes Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I've been thinking of getting one of these for a few weeks now but having suffered through the original iPaq dust problems I'm a bit worried about this issue. Please post if you have had a C500/i-mate etc for more than a couple of weeks. It would be good to know if this affecting everybody or not.
Guest sparkisgti Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 i have about 3 tiny specs bottom left of the screen, but u can only just see it when the screen is off
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I've got about half a dozen specs near the "earpiece volume down" button, buit again you can only see them when it's off
Guest Djarid Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Over 2 weeks now and no dust. This is without a phone cover and due to the left pocket procedure adopted by so many MoDaCo members (apparently) I also have no scratches yet :)
Guest Phil Lee Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I've had my replacement phone for 2 weeks now and so far no dust. With my original phone I had dust after the first 5 days.
Guest SirGaz Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 First phone had a stupid amount of dust behind the screen, the replacement has one spec near the volume up/down rocker but you can't see it when the screen's on. Just noticed a couple of specs near the bottom of the screen as well, but can't see them with the screen on. Not looking good for the long term :)
Guest phAn Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I've had it for two weeks now. No dust yet. I use a siemens cover to clip it on to my pants, don't want to wear it in my pocket because of possible scratches
Guest e200novice Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Should change username to c500 novice i guess? Had c500 for 3 days and have loads of dust under screen! Phoned orange though and they have told me to simply pick up a new one from the orange shop where i upgraded. Crap phone build quality but great customer service. Does anyone know of a high street outlet selling a case for this phone or know of a case for another phone that fits??
Guest barrybryce Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 No dust. :) But the only thing Orange have got right recently
Guest kurtfhouse Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Mine has a shed load of dust at the top right of the screen, I am thinking of phonng Orange and complaining
Guest midnight Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 over 2 weeks old and no dust whatsoever, case is rather scratched though, just touch a silver c500 and it gets scratched :)
Guest Mal Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 No dust in mine, though I keep it in its case when I'm not using it (Nice little leather looking case from the orange shop). Nearly 3 weeks now. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest peekie Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 ive managed to remove the dust which i had by sucking out the dust with a special adapter ( melted to fit vac nozzle )spend some time making one and the dust saga is gone
Guest fozzie Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 ive managed to remove the dust which i had by sucking out the dust with a special adapter ( melted to fit vac nozzle )spend some time making one and the dust saga is gone  Â  Â  Design specs and pics please :)
Guest peekie Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 will make some photos ect and post them
Guest Cloda Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Nearly 2 weeks now, not 1 spec yet. The dust issue cropped up just before I bought mine, and I was sorely afraid. Peekie's excellent solution (vacuum attachment from a B&D mouse sander no less) shows that dust is not the end of the world though. Even with dust, I could never regret buying this phone. (Why do I get the ominous feeling that those words will come back to bite me  )
Guest plantagoo Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Hi! No dust at all on my SPV C500 which was bought in CH. Greetings plant
Guest e200novice Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Update on orange replacement for my dusty c500. Orange lied about the note on my account for a replacement unit!! Luckily the nice chap in the shop "discovered" a fault with the battery which resulted in a new phone anyway! Basically orange will not now replace handsets because of dust ingress. I guess that they are beginning to realise that this is becoming an expensive issue for them. Lets see how long the new one stays dust free!!??
Guest griff_dai Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Yes, please post a new topic with your design specs and photos of this dust removal device (mines dust free)
Guest barrybryce Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Edited out as completely irrelevant. In totally the wrong thread
Guest fozzie Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Eh? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest barrybryce Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Ooops.    I must have had two windows open or something... that was supposed to go in the metrofone thread in applications. So not too far off then...
Guest TigerNet Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 ...no dust in mine...yet!!!
Guest snakeeater Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Mine has two little specs. Cant hardly see it with the screen lit. Big fuss over nothing IMO
