Guest blingin Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Does anyone know when the c500 is ouot in the uk. And can someone help me make a decision on whether to go for the p900 or the the c500 i just cant make my mind up. Also mabe list some pros and cons for both cheers.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 The C500 is already out in the UK, as for deciding what phone you want, personally I would say the C500 as it's newer technology and also syncronises and runs faster than the P900. Also and from what I've seen is more user friendly :) (unless I was playing with a poorly set up P900 :?)
Guest blingin Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Oh rite as i went to carphone warehouse today and they didnt have any in any of there stores and said it hasnt been released yet a few weeks time. Hows the camera on the c500 and also the video. With the video how long do u get to record as i cant stand the 10 second clips u get with a nokia 6600 which i have at the mo.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Video appears to be dependant on how much space you have on your memory card :) As for pictures they appear to be good as well.
Guest barrybryce Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 C500 by a million miles, (try your nearest Orange shop). But then you are going to get impartial advice on this site, aren't you :) Have played with a P900. Had some nice features, but I thought the interface was a bit clumsy too.
Guest blingin Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Are there any faults with the phone, and also how is the sound say when an mp3 is played through the speakerphone.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Sound is ok but I have heard better, and with all phones it's best to use headphones. As for faults there is a bug list in the main C500 section of the site that is worth looking at. As long as you do not play games seriously then the C500 is a good choice.
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 FWIW I used to have a P900, but came back to Smartphone (used to have E100) with the C500. I loved my P900, but the C500 does most of the same things and fits in your pocket better. I haven't regreted it for a moment, even though there are some things the C500 can't do that the P900 can (and vice versa of course). The things it can't do are annoying (and most revolve around MS being plain stupid) but if you want a fun phone for games/email/web/photo/video and less of a business phone then you probably wont regret it either.
Guest blingin Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 What features does the p900 that the c500 dosent have?
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 For me the biggest "loss" was the ability to sync with any folder on an Exchange server. I've found a work-around (at a cost of £150), but no solution because it's an ActiveSync limitation. The other "features" are probably more add-on software options...like editing Word and Excel files, simple databases with on-demand conversion, stuff like that which probably not that many people need. The range of 3rd party apps is the biggest difference really. I still think that Orange, MS, and the MS Smartphone developer community have different ideas of what the MS Smartphone platform is good for: Orange didn't test the C500 with games (which is probably the most active development area) because they consider it a business phone, but it doesn't integrate with common business systems (like Word, Excel, Exchange), and MS seem to be leaving it to the 3rd party developers to fill the gaps.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 If the phone had Excel and Word I would be able to get rid of my Ipaq. I live in hope :)
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Word and Excel editing might be a pain on a keypad, but for some of us it would be THE killer app. Its obviously not as easy as all that or someone would have done it already. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest blingin Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 I phoned up orange today and i can have the p900 or c500 on a free upgrade. Although both not in stock untill 7 days time. With the c500 how long do u get recording time? And also what is the best camera/video between the two phones. Plus hows the games on the p900?
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 I preferred some of the games on the P900 - mainly because it's a bigger screen, but there are also quite a lot of proper interactive ones like Metal Bluster and Sky Force (have a look on Handango for screenshots ATM on the C500 i'm addicted to Goldmine (fruit machine) and Pocket Minigolf, good games, but not quite in the same vein. I don't like Quake/Doom ports, but I think those that do are quite impressed with the fact that it works, even if the gameplay is not that great. I think that recording times are limited by the amount of available memory, and IMO the C500 "stills" camera is slightly better than the P900.
Guest blingin Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Ok i have decided on the p900 as i have tried both out today in my local orange shop and the p900 was just a great phone. Everything on the phone i liked an i thought the picture looked great especially once u make it so its the whole screen viewable. So i should get myne in just over a week as they are out of stock. Thanks for the info between the two phoness chis... :)
Guest efjay Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Why not go for the p910i which has more storage space (64mb), 32mb ram, html email viewer, bluetooth headset and handsfree profiles and built-in word and excel editors? Seems that would be the best choice rather than the p900 at the moment and apparently is available at cpw
Guest blingin Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 available at cpw? the p900 has word and excel editors dosent it? As it also has bluetooth headset aswell i thought? The only changes i thought was upgraded memory, 256k display and the new keyboard thing. Th only thing which changes my mind towards the p900 is that i can get that on a free upgrade but i reckon i may hae to pay quite a bit on an upgrade with the p910 what u think? I know lots of ?'s
Guest efjay Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Try a cpw and see, its £499 sim free but less on contract, check how much it will cost to upgrade. P900 doesnt have editors included but P910 has, P910 has support for the bluetooth handsfree profile which p900 doesnt. Price is definitely a factor but just ask and see what they offer
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 The P910 also supports up to 1Gb Memory Stick Dup PRO cards (whereas the P900 only supports up to 128Mb Mem Stick Duo) Quick Office allows you to edit Word and Excel, but it's not built in on the P900 and costs about $20 US. Presumably that's what is built in on the P910 but I don't actually know. Mem Sticks are expensive compared to SD cards (and even mini SD cards). I ruled the P910 out for myself because it was such a minor advance from the P900 that I had, but I would agree with efjay - if you can afford it you'll get a better phone in the P910 than the P900.
Guest blingin Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Who is cpw? And im from the UK. How much do u reckon it would cost me in your oppinion on an upgrade to the p910i. Im on orange 2000 a month contract with an average £280 per month bill. There is no extra upgrade fee only the phone which i decided to get and i can get the p900 for free.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Who is cpw? Car Phone Warehouse :)
Guest blingin Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 oh rite i havent seen it in there. Have any of you lot seen one in the uk eithr buying through orange direct or stores ets?
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I haven't seen the P910 in any stores at all so far, assuming that's the on you're talking about. According to the thread below they are available in the UK: http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?...p=141371#141371 Expansys have 51 in stock here: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=P910I (scroll down for prices with Voda connections)
Guest efjay Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Also check this thread http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=69396 memory stick duo pro is a bit more expensive than sd but if you do a search you should find a good price, try asking on the symbian forums to get some of their impressions, both phones have their advantages so decide which one suits you best
Guest blingin Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I tried registering on the symbian site but wont allow hotmail address's. Also i noticed a few people have them but on voda and o2 how come no orange yet as thats who ill be upgrading with.
