How to install from XML file?

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the ignorance. But I have some applications that when unzipped, are in xml format.

I have copied them to my mpx200, and using file manager have opened them. But the xml files open in Internet Explorer and do not continue from there.

Am I missing something here?

It must be a CAB installer. Do not unzip the file. Kindly refer to 'Installing a CAB file' below.

How to install applications

SP applications or software come in different formats. They are CAB (.cab) files, standard EXE (.exe) files and Auto Installer. Auto installer are those applications that can be installed directly from PC with your Smartphone synchronized.

Installing CAB (.cab)/ .hme files

CAB (.cab) file is a relative of ZIP (.zip). Though it looks like a .zip file and uses the same icon, it should not be unzipped. CAB format applications should be copied into your Smartphone 'as is' and installed from there (see procedure).

1. Active synch your phone

2. Copy .cab files to IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories

In your phone...Click Programs > (more...) > Accessories

3. Select the .cab file

4. Press Action (joystick)

5. Select where do you want to store the application

(this screen appears when you have Storage Card installed)

Note: CAB files (installer) will automatically be removed from your memory after installation. You can also copy the CAB file into to your Storage Card and install from there. Of course, you need http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=55367>Smart Explorer (and the like) to make this possible.

Installing Standard EXE files

Standard EXE can be identified by its icon (the program icon itself). Running it from PC will give you an error message stating that it can only be run on the target machine (i.e. Smartphone). Here's how to install it.

1. Active synch your phone

2. Copy .exe to your IPSM or Storage Card

3. Explorer Active synch and locate the .exe file

4. Right-click .exe file, click Create Shortcut

5. Rename shortcut to the name of the application (w/o .exe)

6. Cut and paste shortcut to IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories or Games

Installing PC/Auto Installer Applications

PC/Auto installer commonly has an .exe extension. They can be installed through a PC with a connected device.

1. Active synch your phone

2. Run auto-installer

3. If you have a Storage Card, it will prompt you where to install the files (either in Phone or in Storage Card)

4. Wait until the installation is finished.
