Guest Pigo Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 I've got a question. I have a MPx200 and it hooks up to the PC through mini-USB. Does this online work one way or both ways when it comes to hooking up a device. In other words: could it be possible to hook up a external hard drive or CD/DVD-rom drive to my phone?? I was thinking of the possibilities if that was possible. and wouldn't be bad to be honest. Pigo
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Probably not if the mpx200 is a slave device it would require that the external device would have to act as the USB Host (master) which is unlikely. see www.usb.org for more info. thanks to Dade for the info Post Moved to Help and Advice
Guest Pigo Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 so it couldn't be changed to a master device? I used to have a lap top and when I put my mpx200 next to it it said it was another computer. so maybe it can do both. any ideas? Would be extremely usefull to have it. just imagin being able to have a small CD-rom drive for those 3 inch CD's you could have lot's of movies and music albums in your pocket. company info. GPS maps. you name it everything in reach! or what about an external harddrive for it. a notebook harddrive made axternal maybe. possibilities would be endless. who needs a laptop when you have a miniature laptop in your pocket. Guest ha107900 Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 With SD card capacity at 512Mb/1Gb, how much more storage do you need? I would much rather carry around a 1 or 2 more SD cards than a mini CD-ROM and some 3 inch CD's
Guest meatgrinder Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 i completely agree - external devices like hd's and cd drives would not be cool. Dave
Guest Pigo Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 I still think it's easier to change. sure an SD is smaller but more expensive. and you can change the cd's a lot and having 10 SD cards is not really cheap. and the external harddrive would definatly rock. 20 gig's on your cell... wouldn't that be great? Pigo
Guest pisquee Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 what about using wifi or BT to access a drive that you carried around in a bag? sure this would involve wifi phones (though at present would be useful for pocket pc/palm etc) and drivers, but this would be the best way to do it, as having a long cable and big drive on the end wouldn't be very practical for a phone.
Guest Pigo Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 still smaller then a laptop though. but my thought was a laptop hard drive made external or something. those things aren't that big... an SPV is bigger than one of those hard drives. plus they are pretty light aswell. so if someone could make something like that... I would DEFfINATLY buy it! "hint hint" Pigo
