Guest adamjkimber Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 I'm looking for a few people to Alpha Test my WinAMP Remote Control please. It lets you control all of the standard WinAMP functions and shows you which track is playing all from your smartphone! I couldn't find one so just coded my own :) If anyone wants to help then either reply to this post or PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send you the program with instructions on how to run it  Adam

Guest RickDawson Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 How can I find out what ip address to enter? first time I loaded it on my mobile it asked for an ip address, but I entered nothing. I have found the text file that should contain the ip address, so once i know which ip address to enter, I can then try to get it to connect. Posted from my c500 SmartPhone!
Guest adamjkimber Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Hi Rick, It needs the IP address of the machine that the server is running on. If you go to start > settings > network connections and double-click 'Local Area Connection' - the IP address should be displayed under details. If you just delete the serverIP file then it will ask you the IP next time you restart. HTH, Adam
Guest Pigo Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 sorry but I didn't get an email. very interested though. Pigo
Guest gv_synt Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Having problems PM'ing, comign back with not authorized. This app sounds great, should be much easier than using pocketcontrol pc for controlling winamp :) Would like to give it a test.
Guest LarsDK Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 It is not able to esatablish an GPRS connection by itself. The currently playing song isnt working as stated. I would like a jump feature, like when you press "J" in the playlist and it searches the playlist for matches, if that is possible, dont know how but maybe make Winamp create a playlist and upload it to the phone and then call the number of the song from the phone. Maybe it could be possible to let winamp create a html-playlist and then do the search in that file and then retrieve the number and call that number in the Winamp playlist.... dont know if that would be possible, jsut an idea. It would also be noce if the basic control of the player was bound to the joystick instead of an menu option, like next, previous and volume uo and down.
Guest zeta101 Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 does this require both an internet connection on your pc and gprs on your phone? what about bluetooth?!
Guest apexlite Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I would love to become a tester.. im going to be getting a samsung i600 will your winamp controller work with this? and also how does it transmit data? through an SD wifi card? IR? i tried to pm you and it wouldnt let me so if you would like to email me please send it to: [email protected] thanks all justin
Guest LarsDK Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 It use the GPRS connection so you can control from anywhere just as long as GPRS is available. An internet connection to the PC is required.
Guest Jon_ Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 If it was to use bluetooth Id help :)
Guest ajb3000 Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I definately think it should work over Bluetooth. If you are out of Bluetooth range, you probably couldn't hear the music anyway.
Guest adamjkimber Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Hi Guys, Thanks to everyone for helping with the testing and for all your ideas. I'm working on the new version now and hope to have a release either later today or tomorrow. The controller was designed to work over bluetooth, that's how I use it! It uses TCP/IP to connect to the server but as long as you have pass-through enabled on your activesync and your smartphone set to automatic for it's internet connection then you can enter your PC's LAN IP address into the smartphone and it will connect over bluetooth. I'm fixing the current track at the min so that should be fixed for the next release and I'll bind some functions to the joystick? I'll probably go for left and right to be previous and next tracks while up and down control the volume. Anybody got any other ideas? Adam
Guest LarsDK Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Please read my post on the first page, and perhaps comment on it...
Guest adamjkimber Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Lars: I thought I had addressed all the issues raised in your post - if not then I will do so here. It is not able to esatablish an GPRS connection by itself. The software was designed to be used with an already established bluetooth connection. It was only meant to be used on a LAN, of course it will work over an Internet connection as it uses TCP/IP, there is no security built into the server against Internet attacks - as such, it is not recommened to be run 'Internet-Side'. The currently playing song isnt working as stated. This is listed under 'Known Bugs' on the homepage, should be fixed by the next release I would like a jump feature, like when you press "J" in the playlist and it searches the playlist for matches, if that is possible, dont know how but maybe make Winamp create a playlist and upload it to the phone and then call the number of the song from the phone. Maybe it could be possible to let winamp create a html-playlist and then do the Search in that file and then retrieve the number and call that number in the Winamp playlist.... dont know if that would be possible, jsut an idea.A nice idea and certainly one which has been taken on board. Unfortunatly, it's not going to be that small a feature so it will probably appear a bit later down the line - looking to get 'basic' functionality sorted out first. It would also be noce if the basic control of the player was bound to the joystick instead of an menu option, like next, previous and volume uo and down. Totally agree, was a terrible oversight for the first version - what can I say, it's Alpha software  It should be in the next release. Well, hopefully that covered everything - if not then just let me know :)
Guest apexlite Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I have an idea... is it possible for you to incorporate a section of the playlist on the phone... like a list of 5-10 songs on screen so you can see whats coming up next and what played before. also if its possible to have the phone download the entire playlist (at program load) so you can scroll through the entire list and when you select a song the phone will basically send a play command and a list index so the computer will know which song to play. just an idea, i dont actually have my phone yet so i havent been able to use your program but i cant wait thanks
Guest adamjkimber Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I will be implementing an option to have the playlist show on the phone and you can just scroll through and choose a song. Unfortunatly, it'll take a bit to code so it's a little way down the line at the minute - looking at a few weeks to a couple of month until the app has reached that stage as I have loads of other commitments other than the app!
Guest Pigo Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 still no email :) I'll send you another PM then. Pigo
