Guest nedge2k Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Dont know if any of you have experienced this but the progress bar in my IE has suddenly gone :? I'm having a virus prob atm which is messing some things up (lsass.exe is infected with summin) so that might be causing it. I've tried a re-install of IE6 SP1 but its still gone :) Any ideas peeps?
Guest diceman Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Try: View -> Status Bar As for the virus, try giving Ad-aware a go. It's not a virus killer as such, but it's great for removing the spyware and crap that generally infests Internet Explorer, and it's free (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/).
Guest zeta101 Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 lsass is the sasser worm, check here: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp...&virus_k=125091 there is apparently a fix, look at the bottom of the page. Also if you havent already tried it you should check out mozilla firefox, it doesnt get infested like IE does (dont know if thats because firefox is better or because not enough people use it to make hackers and the like want to make things that exploit it lol) but its much nicer than IE, especially once you have some choice extensions installed :) hope you get it sorted!
Guest diceman Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 I use Firefox as well and think it's excellent. I also read a few security mailing lists and there are new IE security holes posted all of the time but I've hardly seen any for Firefox :) . Also, I just read a article saying that the author of the Sasser worm has been given a job at a security firm!! Sounds like a ploy to get some cheap publicity  (http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/09/20/1095532209897.html?oneclick=true).
Guest nedge2k Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Doh! #-o I knew there'd be a simple answer to that...couldnt find one tho  As for the virus, i use adaware, norton, spybot and zone alarm...so how it got in i dont know :? Norton wont delete it as its embedded in a critical process and killing it causes a timed shutdown....gay. I was planning on giving McAfee a try...as for firefox...ooo dont know bout that :) Hehe Cheers for the advise guys
