Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Just though I would let everyone know. I was 'testing' my E200 for a friend who wants to buy a C500 and he wanted a rough estimate of how long the battery would last with the backlight permanently on and with a BT GPS running. Well I started off by fully charging my phone, at 10:00am it was 100% charged. I switched on my TomTom GPS and set my power options to Backlight always on and no timeout on the screensaver. I started Mapopolis and set the GPS options to log the data (even though it sat on my desk almost all day) and guess what. At 12:00 it lost 1 bar of power At 13:45 it lost 2 bars of power At 15:45 it lost 3 bars of power At 17:30 it came up with the first low battery warning  At 19:30 it switched off  Thats over 9 hours of constant BlueTooth, backlight, saving log to SD-Card and the occasional call as well and I had to keep plugging my GPS into charge throughout the day :) I am absolutely amazed  I didn't think the E200 would last that long (I wonder how long a fully conditioned C500 would last :?: )
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 With TomTom a long time :) I switched on my TomTom GPS and set my power options to Backlight always on and no timeout on the screensaver. TomTom overrides the back light so it it always on as you need it to be.
Guest pisquee Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 On the other hand, any done a test of how long a smartphone would last with screen always completely off, no BT, and Radio off etc - kind of a control reading, to which other readings can be compared to, which will tell you how much power diffeent things drain.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Nope, backlight goes off even with my TomTom GPS running (or do you mean TomTom software :?: ). When I am driving I set the power options before I start driving, if its long distance. What I have noticed since I changed to E200 is that when Mapopolis 'speaks' the backlight comes on so I always set me default timeout to 60sec that way if I forget to set the power or if I am not driving too far its enough time to have a quick look at the screen.
Guest zerosignull Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 it only last so long because the cpu is not being used much.i can get about 5~ hours of mp3 playback on my e200 before the battery is flat but about 2/3 of that if im wathcing a video
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Well spurned on by my earlier efforts I did a similar test with Betaplayer. I ran a video file on repeat non stop from my SD-Card with the volume about midway and this lasted for nearly 5 hours (just 5mins short) thats longer than any of these new handheld personal media players, battery powered portable DVD players :) I haven't tried MP3 files as I imagine it would last longer (no screen updates, backlight off etc). As for not doing anything at all in answer to Pisquee's question. I haven't times this but when my E100's battery was fully conditioned I could leave work on Friday at 5:00pm and with only a handful of calls it would still be going (3% battery) by 9:00am on Monday morning  As for running Mapopolis with constant BT GPS and log file I would assume it would be making the CPU do a bit of work. If anyone has a C500 and wants to try a similar test I would love to know how long that would last.
Guest martynhardacre Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 Don't know if you guys know this but I went on the orange site and got the most up to date operating system for the spv e200. the battery life seemed to be extended siginficantly because of this. give it a try. not sure of the link but seem to remember gettting it through coolsmartphone.com
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 Hi martynhardacre, I should have stated that those tests where done with the latest update.
