Guest Coolbox Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Hi I just saw a commercial from EA games about "The sims" for ngage and I was wondering if it has been made for MS smartphones too or if it is going to? I really hope so..... :) I am sorry if someone else has asked about this before but I couldn't find anything about it by searching.
Guest Coolbox Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Ok so it hasn't been made but do you think it will be??
Guest blewer Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Doubt it very much. Doesn't mean someone won't make a 'SIM TYPE' game. They tend to be pretty huge games though
Guest bongbong Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Believe me it will but wont it take a huge amount of system memory to run the game on a windows mobile device? In that case we spv e100 users might be out of the loop. The AI scripts alone could seriously take a huge amount of resources on an older windows phone.
Guest Coolbox Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Does the ngage have better specs than a smartphone?? I have no idea how much mem they have....I hope that if they make a version of sims for smartphones that it at least can run on the mpx200
Guest midnight Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 bongbong, not enough system memory to run it????? the NGage has a huge, whopping, enormous 3.4mb of ram The Sims AI isnt all that complicated you know, just time based events, reactions to events + some random elements. The Sims could easily be made to work on the original SPV, but to be honest, why would game developers now restrict themselves making games for old hardware? If this game was started now, it would take at least 6 months dev time, do you think many original SPV's will be left by then?
Guest Coolbox Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 Midnight, I am not sure I understand what you say..(my English is not so perfect)..do you think it will be made for smartphones or at least software alike or do you think it will only be supporte by newer smartphones like c500?? As I said I have the mpx200 and I hope that would be enough to play games like that.
Guest djfuego Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 It's very possible it could be ported to the next gen phones .. what with nvidia unveiling it's mini 3d chips for pda devices not too long ago.. give it a bit of time and you'll be playing quake3 full speed on a mobile device.
Guest midnight Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 Coolbox, what i was saying is that Sims is possible, cos the game is out on ngage (the original SPV has specs that rival the ngage, in fact, better specs in most departments) even though the ngage version is a shadow of its former self, but, it depends on the software company if they make it or not, and as the MS Smartphone isnt taken seriously as a gaming device by either the hardware manufacturers or the carriers I doubt many high profile software houses (such as EA) will take it seriously either.
Guest djfuego Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Well I'd like to see it seeing that WWP was a huge success on smartphone.
Guest midnight Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 it was? its only had 15 downloads on Handango (including demo version), i dont think any game has sold really well for MS Smartphone yet (Eclipse was in the top 10 sellers list for MS Smartphone for a while, and thats had less than 200 sales, sad, but true)
Guest beersoft Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 i worked out a way to play sims on my phone 1) load VNC server on pc and VNC client on phone 2) load sims 3) connect phone to pc via BT or GPRS 4) launch VNC 5) go blind due to the screen being too small 6) 7) go back to IRC because thats where my friends are later Owen
Guest djfuego Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 :) Bwahahahhaha *hysterics* Oh that's a good one
Guest Coolbox Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Very creative!!!:-) But i don't think I want to try it out hehe
Guest bongbong Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Well if you havent noticed, it's windows! Even if the ngage has lower memory etc less hardware strenght thatn our old spv100's, it's the operating system's tendency to eat every resource up than can keep a game from performing it's best on the hardware. I had minigolf reset the phone everytime i end the game, so does stuntman. Look at the gameboy advance it has no o.s and is the weakest in terms of hardware compared to the ngage and e100 BUT the sims version plays well. And as for old phones i know that some of you upgrade your phones maybe every 3 months but a majority of phoneusers upgrade over longer periods of time. I myself upgrade every two years. When i went to america last year i was suprised that most cellphone users still use monochrome cellphones and these people can afford the latest phones but wont. They just didt want the extra expense or are satisfied with what they have. I got to admit for their needs, the old phones were a practical choice. If ever smartphone games dont sell well...it's because a lot of people are still stuck with very old phones. They dont need or desire the latest phones. I guess if the major cell phone service providers dont include upgrades or new phones in their plans, maybe 70 percent of cellpohne users wont upgrade on their own. It's simply because a lot of cellphone users aren't tech savy. In fact I guess that's why nokia is concentrating on improving their camphones and not the o.s or other features of their phones coz cams are what most average people understand and is a big selling point for the average layman. It's silly that they have ulead video editing software on their latest nokia phones, the video has improved but not that much yet thats why a lot of people are desiring those phones because of the silly little features and not exactly functionality. Smartphone users even non ms smartphone users arent the bread and butter of Nokia, Motorola etc. They are trying their best to wean the mainstream on to the smartphones by introducing better cams etc and not necessarily a better o.s or faster cpus etc to make your phone a better pda. Maybe thats why the smartphone software industry isnt picking up so well. The mainstream wants pretty pictures. A small minority like the people in this site want better pda features. Guess who's winning?
Guest midnight Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 the os eats every resource up so games aint as good as Ngage games?????? I dont think so mate, yes the os takes up 'some' system resources, its bound to do, but to say that then prevents people making decent games is just rubbish. The GBA isnt the weakest hardware at all, it has custom graphics and sound chips that do all the hard work, MS Smartphone has no such special hardware to enhance game performance. Yet, 'some' games are still on par with GBA and better NGage such as Worms World Party, SkyForce and our very own Eclipse: First Wave. It takes time to make games, takes even longer to make really good games, and one of the problems isnt the OS, its the contstantly changing hardware problems the manufacturers keep throwing at us. For example Kumite has been delayed 3 times because HTC in their infinite wosdom keep changing their Joystick/Keypad hardware causing us to go back to the drawing board. It's a shame, cos the OS and processor are easily good enough to have a totally kick as game, better than anything seen on the NGage so far.
Guest Microsoft Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Dear bongbong! All consols have a OS. Maybe i am wrong but i don't think you can keep a SPV C500/Qtek 8010 for long in the usa :/ What i know you cant do it in canada. And the peoples in canada say that the USA is worse then canada.
Guest gravity Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Console OS's are always designed for the purpose of gaming. Windows CE is designed for a lot of purposes(the least of which is gaming). But as far as I can tell, Microsoft don't wanna push Smartphones for gaming, but for business. I guess they don't want to get their hands down and dirty until they release Mobile DirectX. BTW the NGage is a joke. Worst console ever, it even beats the Atari Jaguar in the "insanely stupid design" department. For Nokia to even dare release the phone, without a GPU, shows us how stupid they really are. I speculate that Microsoft will release XBoxPocket or something similar to the PSP. Most likely powered by DirectX. BTW Mobile DirectX is based on the DirectX 8.0 specs. So GPUs and vertex shaders are clearly on the roadmap for Smartphone. nVidia ---> ATi in handheld based GPUs.
