Hi im new here, had my c500 2 days an so far very impressed just got a few questions.

The first is, are the SMS's you recieve stored in some kind of RAM instead of permanent memory. I notice when I remove the battery and put it back I loose all the SMS's I have recieved? Can I change where they are saved?

Also the contacts, can I filter to just show phone numbers not email addresses as I have over 100 contacts just on email and do not wish to see them when I am trying to find a contact to call. Also how do you search for a persons name e.g. it seems easy if there name starts with a,d,g,j,m,p,t or w but if its not a first letter on the keypad I dont seem to be able to do it :s

Cheers for your help in advanced

Hi, welcome to the forum. :)

I've not had that happen but I have read other people posting about this? You can't readily change where the SMSs are stored (without a lot of hacking - assuming the hack for the original SPV still works?).

Also the contacts, can I filter to just show phone numbers not email addresses as I have over 100 contacts just on email and do not wish to see them when I am trying to find a contact to call.

I'm guessing that your contacts have their email addresses as their default contact details, which is why that is being displayed when you search through your contacts? You can change their default contact details to whatever you want. Either by using left and right on the joystick when you are viewing the Contacts list, or by editing a contact and picking a field as the default contact number.

I have a few hundred contacts and the most button presses it takes to find the right once is usually no more than 4 or 5.

Also how do you search for a persons name e.g. it seems easy if there name starts with a,d,g,j,m,p,t or w but if its not a first letter on the keypad I dont seem to be able to do it :s

That's because the phone uses Predictive Text mode to select the persons name. Enter their name as if you were typing it in an SMS (i.e. only pressing each key once, regardless of what letter you want), assuming you use T9 mode

o right that explains the problem with searching through contacts. When I am refering to the contacts that have emails I mean only have emails they are ones out of my outlook address book. Suppose the best thing would be to categorise them as business then filter on personal?

The problem with the sms seems a weird one as outbox and sent stay in the phone just not inbox which are the ones I would like to save :)

That sounds like a good way. Like I say though, I've never found the need myself. Probably because I've not yet had to search my contacts lists without knowing the details of the person I'm looking for. Putting them in to categories sounds like the best way forward.

As an aside, you might want to give SmartphoneFind a try - http://www.syncdata.it/sphfind.html I find it very useful. There is a thread on this forum about it, somewhere too.
