Hello everyone, I need advice on finding a PDA which will work abroad. I am currently living in England and will hopefully be travelling to France for 6 months and was wondering if i'd be able to use my PDA to access the net over there? Will I be able to set up for example a Tiscali pay as you go Internet connection (as I'm doing with my current Nokia 3650) in the UK and then will it subsequently work in France?

Also, will I have to purchase a SIM card to get it to work? Will I be able to connect without a contract - eg use a Pay as you go SIM Card?

I am also looking to spend less than £200. If anyone can advise me i'd be really grateful. I don't have long at all to find this PDA, so I am sorry if my questions sound slightly ignorant, I have not been able to research much as I don't have the time as I need to set myself up for the journey.

All help will be very much appreciated :)

...are you looking for a PDA that will work as a phone? If so, I would look at the following:

XDA 2

Handspring (Palmone) Treo 600

Sony Ericsson P900

...all of these are tri-band and will work in France, but new will probably break your budget - you might find second hand...

If it is a PDA to work WITH your phone, there are a range of HP iPaqs or Palm handhelds that will meet your needs...

A suggestion might be to look at www.expansys.com for the range and then search elsewhere for decent prices...

Hope this helps.

Cheers Nick, that does help :) I have found a little on the XDA 2 and it is expensive  Can I ask what you mean by 'work with your phone?' - do you mean they will connect via bluetooth to connect to the net? If so, I would not mind that at all. I think my 3650 is tri-band... Cheers

...exactly...if you have bluetooth on the phone (I think the 3650 does) you then connect to the web/e-mail/sms etc with a bluetooth PDA...have a look at the iPaq 4150 - this has bluetooth & wifi...

Let me know how you get on...

Cheers

Cheers Nick, the iPaq 4150 looks very useful. I would much rather have the XDA 2 due to it's multifunctionality, but the price is beyond my budget. BTW, can I ask what exactly wifi is and how you connect to it? Thanks

...wifi is wireless networking, usually to connect to the internet over a broadband connection from a 'hot spot'. Again, have a look at www.expansys.com for the specs...if you want this, I could let you have mine for £210 as I am thinking of upgrading...let me know if you would like more details...

Cheers

Nick

Cheers Mate. I am gonna make a decision between that HP iPaq and the XDA II. I'll see how far my funds stretch
