rumor has it that the developer of smartnes took the source code and has pretty much vanished into thin air. dont know whats up with these emulator developers. a guy developed an nes/gb/gamegear/mastersystem emulator. he made the demo and sept 1 it expired and no one heard from him since either. if you are a developer, can you look into maybe a nes emulator that supports bluetooth multiplayer functions. kalemsoft made one but its for the palm os. with all these next generation smartphone phones coming out

a nes emulator with bluetooth multiplayer????? thats going just a little way beyond a regular port dont you think? surely that would mean changing the games themselves, not the emulation as the data required to be sent via BT would be different for every game

well hell go to www.kalemsoft.com and see for yourself. palm has an nes emulator with bluetooth multiplayer capability. i know if palm can do it than it can probably be done on smartphone also

Actually the data would be nearly the same. Since the bluetooth multi only has to send the input of the users to each other, the local machines would do independant processing of the input. Although this would bring up a whole other set of issues.

yes, but a NES doesnt run 2 versions of the game at the same time, it has one game running which processes the information from 2 controllers. Also MANY games have random elements to them, even down to the shot of a bullet in a shoot em up is most likely different each time you play the game. To get around this, the only way i see possible is if the game is running on one phone, both players watch the game on this one phone, and the second players phone acts as game controller only with no game displayed on their screen. And, as you'll mosty likely agree, that isnt really a very good solution.

Normal bluetooth multiplayer games cater for this by sending all relevant game changes, or, by keeping the game so its scripted in nature (events happen at exactly the same time, every time), and so Bluetooth multiplayer is very different to 2 players using one machine.

That would be like writing a client/server system for every game. Although, now that I think about it, there must be an easier way to do this, since multiplayer is featured in many PC emulators such as ZSNES and SNES9x

hell even the pathetic nokia ngage has it

Yes, but the NGage games are made to be bluetooth multiplayer, that isnt console emulation over bluetooth, which is a different beast.
