Guest PinkPig Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Hi there, I need (/want) a new phone - I wasn't really thinking about a smartphone, but I suddenly saw lots of good things about the C500 / HTC Typhoon, and it's a fair price, so it's on my list of "phones I might want". But - I've never had a smartphone before, and I've got a few questions that don't seem to be answered in the reviews. -How is the phone (both hardware + software) for texting? As easy as a typical Nokia, etc? I want to use the phone as a "normal" phone as well as just for smartphone features, and I text a lot, so this is quite important. -I haven't seen much mention of this, but, with a 512MB mini-SD card, does the phone make a decent stereo MP3 player with the stereo headset? I've heard lots about the Nokia 6230 rivalling the Ipod in sound quality - how is the C500? Also, is it easy to play playlists of songs using supplied or third party software - does it work properly as a jukebox, and does music play at decent bitrates without jumping, with reasonable access times between songs? -I've seen the conversion guides for PocketTV - do videos on the phone actually play as well as they do (once converted) on the PC? -I've also heard someone talk about "radio headsets" available - ie. something which is a headset for a phone, with a radio built in - do these really exist? One thing I don't like about the C500 is the lack of FM radio. Also - if I bought this SIM free to use with my O2 Online PAYG Sim card - would everything (ie. GPRS) work fine? Also if there's anything else significant that makes a smartphone worse than others I'd be grateful to know.... Thanks for any answers to these questions!, Matthew
Guest stuarthouse58 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Hi mate Had my C500 for about 3 weeks now and since then, 9 of my friends have all bought them ( thats how impressed they are with it! ). If you are an avid texter than you wont be disappointed as it has all the usual cool features that you would expect with texting these days like T9, drop down menus, character settings etc etc With regard to the MP3 it is dependent on the rate that you downloaded the song ie 320kbps would be at least as good as an IPod if not better, 128kbps would be a little worse. You get an average pair of headphones with the phone ( they are handsfree too!) if you were to copy a CD for example, it would sound exactly the same and play in a list as it was downloaded so you can skip forward or back while its playing if you don't fancy listening to a particular track. With 512 MB you would be laughing!!! ( only if is a mini SD though as it doesn't take the older large ones from earlier models! You could fit about 200 tracks or so!!!!) Pocket TV is fine but i would recommend Beta player ( latest edition ) this is what clinched it for my mates when i showed them the whole of I ROBOT it wa crystal clear and that was copied from a pirate DVD!!!! and was as smooth as silky the silk worm! In my opinion you would be a fool to select any other make or model currently on the market, it is by far the best device i have seen in terms of size, user friendly, able to upgrade/add applications. Not clued up on the head sets mate- sorry If you bought this phone sim free/orange PAYG and had all of the settings O2 has to put in it there is no reason you should have any problems as long as you application unlocked it with the Orange PAYG sim in it first! Hope this has helped! :)    :!:
Guest Microsoft Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 About that handsfree thing.. You can still lissen to radio via GPRS.. Its not so good cuse it have to upload the radio every 40 sek (takes about 1 sek) Plus this costs. But it dosent cost much.. :) Its a good alternative. And i am 80% sure that there is a handsfree that you can use that have a FM radio inbuilt.. I am to tierd for search about it.. But anyways.. Use google..
