Being a long term nokia fan I'm not used to the SPV and I seem to be missing a few options.

1. The auto key lock, i can't find how to turn it on or if there is one!

2. I've set an .wma as my ring tone but I also want a .wav as a new msg tone. the wav is only 60kb. i've used windows media player 10 to import the files and in 'ring tone' i can see and use both wma and wav files but in the new msg i can't see them :)

3. i can't seem to import any video clips. iv'e tried all formats and just get the 'can't convert' error message.

i'm sure i'll have a few more questions soon!

TIA

I think all formats supported is the wma and the avi but I didn't try it yet.

Can you tell me how to put an avatar pic?

Been a long time since I used a Nokia

1) What does auto keylock do (dumb q, I know!)

2) I think only .wma work as message tones. Convert your .wav to a .wma using Windows Media Encoder

3) You have installed activesync 3.7.1 and are 'copying' and 'pasting' not dragging to your desitnation folder? I can play back .wmv files with no (well, few) problems.

wma, thanks i'll try it.

i've tried using media player 10 and dragging. maybe it's me, i'll try again.

3. have a look here http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=787 - a comprehensive guide

3) You may need to actually right click the file in the explore window and copy it and then right click in the storage card and paste. This carries out the conversion, whereas dragging may not.

I definitely have used a file to give me an alert notification. Ah, just remembered it has to be in the right directory on the PHONE not the storage card for the alert notification, unlike a ringtone which can be anywhere. Can't remember immediately but search on your phone for a folder called My Sounds, or Sounds or something like that.

i've tried putting a copy in all the sound folders i can find and AS is doing the conversion on copying into the folder, still no joy:(

OK back to basics then.

For the movie, I took an .mpg coded file and used Windows Media Encoder (the latest download available) to convert it to .wmv using the settings for PocketPC (but changing the screen resolution to 200x176 and the format to PAL). Having generated the .wmv I activesynced my phone and using the explore option right-clicked on the file on the PC and copied it. I then scrolled to the storage card, My Videos folder, and pasted the .wmv file. It transferred and I could then see it in the Playlist on Windows Media Player and pressing play, it worked.

If you want to view uncompressed .avi, .3gp or a couple of other formats (MPEG4?) you could use the multimedia album to view them although I am not sure how well it will work.

For ring tones view this thread

If this is still failing after following these instructions you will probably need to use the Clear Storage App to completely reset your phone, as the problem may be a software glitch. Be careful, this will remove all the settings, programs, etc that you have put on your phone.

@Doombrain

Try renaming the WAV file for your message alert. I had the same problem - the tone not appearing in the list? - and it turned out to be something to do with the filename

As for auto-keylock you can set a timed "phone lock", but you have to enter a numeric password to remove the lock (which also comes on when you start the phone incidentaly). You can probably use a single-digit password so it only adds one button press to the "unlock" process.

Settings - Security - Enable Phone Lock

Oh, and tones should be in StorageApplication DataSounds on the phone

If you want them on your storage card you should put them in the root AFAIK (e.g. Storage Cardringtone.wav)

re the SMS sound issue.

all the files are in the places they should be. i know this because in the sounds option under 'ring tone' i can see and use the wma file i want to use for SMS, but in the SMS sounds menu i can't see the file EVEN though i can in 'ring tone'

Not necessarily true - the ring tone selection looks throughout the phone but for some reason the sound alert only looks in a specific folder(S?).

I use a .wav file in StorageMy Documents for sms tone and a .wma in the same location for ringtone. Bit crap that it doesn't (seem to) look in the other locations.

I think if you want wma for your sms tone you have to edit the registry.

Oh yeah, forgot that - you can only use some formats for some notifications.

I can't remember what it is but if Steely is right you can't use WMA for SMS alerts, you can only use WAV

I haven't seen a registry tweak to fix that but you could try a search for more info on that

First post, first SmartPhone (C500). An auto keylock without a password would be an option I'd welcome. If not then at least a keypad that backlights when trying to enter password in the dark!

it should light up in the dark. there's a light sensor on the pad, when it's dark the key light up. check your power save settings.

Thanks for the reply re keypad blackout, Doombrain. Once password entered keypad backlights fine. Checked sensor setting which is on. If handset behaving differently to yours I'll visit the O shop. Thanks again.
