Dead Backlight on main screen of MPX200?

Suddenly the desplay on my MPX200 seems dramatically darker. I have hard reset the device with no change.

When I angle the device I can see that the top backlight is on. I do not see a bottom back light. I don't recall if there was one. Can someone please confirm or deny that there is a bottom backlight?

I foresee a Motorola Warranty claim.

Thanks,

Jeff

I've just had a look at awarner's (he da man!) sticky, how to strip your mpx200 and it loks like there is only one, but I dont know for sure. Perhaps he'll answer this one for a definitive response! Looking at mine I cant tell if there is more than one light. The spread of brightness does look suspiciously even though.

I'll have a play and take the phone apart again tomorrow

to confirm but as the screen unit is sealed I would suggest you claim on warranty if the display is really that dark now.

I certainly don't remember there being more than one light as such.

So the screen has been getting darker and darker over the last day. At first I thought that it was maybe one of (if there are two, I still don't know) the backlights failing. I no longer think it is the backlight. Even in direct sunlight I can barely see the screen unless I hold it at a very low angle, almost eyelevel with the keypad.

Now the thing is totally unreadable.

The fun part will be reverting back to the basic WM2002 OS in the dark before I send it back to Moto.

Thanks to all for the help and info. It is appreciated.

Well good news as such and more exclusive pictures to follow (hopefully tomorrow)

I have ripped the whole screen apart to get the answer for you.

The backlight consists of three white LEDs at the bottom of the display, you

only see the white band at the top because it is the end of the prismatic sheet used to reflect the light throughout the screen.

the interesting part for me is the panel used appears to be exactly the same as the SPV display that soo many people have damaged, it just that

this is placed behind the display on teh MPX200 rather than ontop as with the SPVE100 etc.
