Can I use other mini usb cables on my c500?

Hi, obviously I could figure this out myself but my phone wont arrive till tomorrow...

Anyone have any experience? I'll need to connect the phone to 2 pcs and have a few mini usb cables lying around (from nikon camera) and wondered if i can use those rather than buy another orange spec one.

Let me know if you have any ideas!

This is good news for me, as real Orange ones are proving hard to get hold of.

Maybe this is a daft question, but would "any standard mini usb cable" also charge the c500 as the Orange one does?

I've got a retractable mini usb cable and when I plug it in the phone goes to the shut down screen and then locks, requiring me to take the battery out. The charging indicator doesn't come on at any time - probably a faulty cable from a dodgy ebay purchase :x ?

it must be. i use my sony NetMD cable here at work with no issues.

I had a mini usb cable with my bluetooth GPS receiver. It will sync through it but won't charge the phone aswell :) (though it does charge the GPS :? )

Therefore, all these cables can't be the same. You'll have to experiment!

Dynamo, are you charging connected to a PC with Activesync installed or using some other way of charging (car adapter, pc without activesync etc). If this is the case you'll not be able to charge with a standard cable as there are some shenanigans going on with the way that the C500 charges. If you look at the posts about car chargers in the forums you should find more information.
