Guest damo2576 Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 hi, just noticed mini sds only go up to 256mb, do people feel this is enough on the c500? just curious cheers damo
Guest Dark Horse Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 You can actually get 512MB cards. I think 256MB is cost effective 512MB cards are currently far too expensive. 256MB is enough if you intend to use your moby as an MP3 player. A full CD encoded at 128kbps is about 70MB so you can get four full CD's on a 256MB card and still have plenty left over for games and apps.
Guest Confucious Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 How long is a piece of string? You can get 512Mb cards now and I'm sure 1Gb cards will be available soon. I have bought a 256Mb card which will do me for now until 1Gb cards come down in price to a reasonable level by which time I will probably need one! For my old phone I bought a 1Gb SD (Not Mini SD) card when I could get one for less than £100 - I paid £99. That was a couple of months ago and you can now get them for about £60. It very much depebds on how much you are putting on your phone, if you want full length movies you will fill up 256Mb quite quickly, if you are only using your phone for basic functions then the 16Mb card that came with it might be enough. Either way, bigger cards will come out and prices will drop so it's your choice.
Guest Chaser81 Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 I got a 256MB card and have about 35 tracks on it with loads of space left, but still not quite enough to have 35 tracks and a movie, so maybe 512MB might be better? Still far too expensive at the moment though, cheaper to buy two 256MB cards than to buy one 512mb!
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 I'm waiting for a 1Gb card. My 256Mb card has about 220Mb on it now (Mapo maps mostly) and I like to have a big selection of music for more variety. I don't want to be swapping cards, especially as the card goes under the battery, so I won;t buy another one until the 1Gb cards are out.
Guest ajfoggy Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 I paid £70 for a 512mb card on it fits four cds on it at 256 plus a few other bits.
Guest Dr Who Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Having played around for a bit 256mb will fit 'nuff albums in 128kbps .wma (about 5) or a whole .wmv movie coded with ~250Kbps sample rate.
Guest ferret Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 I paid £70 for a 512mb card on it fits four cds on it at 256 plus a few other bits. I've just spend £80 on a 1Gb
Guest ajfoggy Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Thanks for that, it always the way :)
Guest ferret Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 True, but after reading the thread properly, are you lot on about miniSD? I bought a normal SD. edit: you are so I'll get my coat
Guest Dr Who Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Might have trouble fitting your SD into the C500????
Guest damo2576 Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 I've just spend £80 on a 1Gb  Where did you get a 1GB mini sd for £70 from??
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 He didnt! 2 posts up he says its a normal one
Guest Exploited Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 I bought the 256MB as the 512's are in such short supply, but combining MP3's (or even WMA's) with PocketStreets-Maps and XviD-movies is a real hassle. An almost daily swapping of files. :) And that wouldn't have been too big a problem if the C500 was a bit faster in copying files, but, compared to the Creative MP3-player, it is really slow.
Guest damo2576 Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Cheers guys. looks like i'll stick with the 16mb card to start - dont need to put mp3 on (have ipod) nor will i be putting movies on (no time to watch!) Pocket streets is the only app I think I need... Unless theres some other gooduns? ta, damo
Guest adiohead Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 I've ordered a 512mb miniSD for £60 (inc delivery!!!!) but they are out of stock for about a week. If I already owned a 256mb then I'd just wait til the 1gb comes out. But my silly 16mb card is over half way and I only have 2 wma's!!!!!
Guest phAn Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 I got myself a 512mini-sd for 74 euro's (50,8 british pounds) incl delivery. I was just in time; the week before I ordered the card cost 10 euro's more, and a week after I bought it they raised the price to 149 euro's (over a 100 pounds). Lucky me. I think 512mb is about enough. Enough storage for maps, music, a movie or two... well 1 gigabyte would be nice too of course. The more space the better :)

Having Mobipocket on your phone so you can sync the news to your phone and for reading the thousands of titles of literature, fiction or science really adds something to the phone imo, but also takes up some megabytes. I have found the screen on my SPV C500 to read a lot better than the screen of my old Treo even though it is physically smaller. And it's weight remains at little over 100 grams, no matter how many books I put on it. :)
Guest Confucious Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 I can't get mobipocket books out of my local library :) If I bought all the books I read I'd be broke (I am anyway but that's beside the point)
