Guest Maksymilian Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Just got the C500 last Sat and I am fairly new to this 'Smartphon' thing. The problem is that I cant setup the E-mail so that I can send/receive the mail from my Pipex (ISP) account. I have gone throught Wizard (on the c500) for setting up. My email address is in correctly and also my user name. The incoming/outgoing server detail are dial.pipex.con and smtp.orange.net respectively. Does anyone else use Pipex? Advice from anyone who may be able to help would be appreciated. Cheers :?
Guest Dectomax Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Hi, I am on Pipex broadband. I use :- Server Type - Pop3 Account Name - Pipex Network - The Interent Incoming Server - pop.dsl.pipex.com Require SSL connection - No Outgoing Server - smtp.orange.net Outgoing Server Requires Authentication - No Works fine. Hope this helps.
Guest The B.A. Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 I also have the same settings as Dectomax, but watch your user name - it should end as *****@dsl.pipex.com 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) Nice fone....
Guest Maksymilian Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 thanks people got it working, it was the incoming server details that were incorrect. Mine said 'dial.dsl.pipex.com' and not 'pop.dsl.pipex.com'. I assume that you contacted Pipex for the correct info. Orange were fcuking useless.
Guest damo2576 Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 i need help too (c500)! been setting it up via the wizard, all seems fine however when I go start - messaging it takes me straight to the "new message" screen while the manual says i should get a list of sms, mms, email etc. also think it may be a problem as my password for my email has a number in - you dont seem to be able to see the number before it turns to a * in the password field while for a character you see it for a second or so first. any help would be appreciated, maybe i'm missing something. have found the phone to be quite buggy too, anyone know when there may be a s/w upgrade? thanks, Damo
Guest Disco Stu Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 i need help too (c500)! been setting it up via the wizard, all seems fine however when I go start - messaging it takes me straight to the "new message" screen while the manual says i should get a list of sms, mms, email etc. thanks, Damo Just click Menu then Folders :)
Guest damo2576 Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 Just click Menu then Folders :) thanks but if i go start -messaging it takes me to the new message screen. if i then go menu there is no option for folders? i did notice that once it kind of scrolled though imap, pop etc when i press right on the "action bar" but that just seemed to be a one off. also sometimes when i go start -messaging it takes me straigh to contacts???? any ideas? i'm losing patience.... cheers, appreciated! damo
Guest Disco Stu Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 So you get to the screen which is headed "Text Messages", press Menu and 3. Folders & 4. Switch Accounts are greyed out ? Sounds like you need to hard reset, but I hope someone can come up with a less drastic solution. :?
Guest Confucious Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 Only just found this thread (I was looking for something else). No need for a hard reset. I believe what has happened is he is on the compose message screen. Under Menu select 7 Cancel compose to exit, then you can switch accounts or whatever. If you select Home from this screen and then go back to email it takes you straight back into the compose screen and the only way out is to cancel compose. Probably to late to help damo2576 but hope it helps anyone else caught like this.

Guest Disco Stu Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 For your Orange account, get them to do it here ^_^
Guest dread123 Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 ok i have managed to set up my blueyonder account by adding 110 as the domain name. but still no joy with orange account. spoke to orange and they cant help! is there any domain numbers i should insert? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Disco Stu Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 My Orange POP3 account works without a domain number. Server type : POP3 Account name : POP3 Network : The Internet Incoming Server : pop.orange.net Outgoing Server : smtp.orange.net (no authentication required) As long as your username & password is correct you should be good to go ! I've had problems connecting when first set up, after hard reset / ROM upgrade etc, but eventually the Orange maniframe will let me in. My advice is to check everything and keep trying. Oh, and shave your head first because it'll be less painfull  ^_^
Guest Confucious Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 Is your username the bit before the @ sign in your email address? i've tried this and the password that gets me in to the website where you have to enter your phone number and it doesn't work. I can get all my other POP3 emails working but not Orange email!
Guest fozzie Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 Is your username the bit before the @ sign in your email address? No; not with Orange email anyway! My Orange.net username is completely different to the name before the @ of the email address. Good luck in finding out what your username is ^_^
Guest Disco Stu Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Orange would have sent you a letter with the details on when you first registered. Fortunately I've kept mine because TBH I don't remember when and where I was when I set it up ! Fozzie's right. My email address is (eg) ablair(at)orange(dot)net and username is tony.blair ; password was mother's maiden name originally.
Guest Confucious Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Your mother's maden name was "originally"? :D Thanks for the clarification. I know my email address but I *think* my username is confucious so I'll havea mess arround and see if I can get it to work. As for keeping the letter - well, I might have done , but if you could see the state of my study you'ld realise it wopuld be quicker to trie every known username/password manually than find it! ^_^ Thanks
Guest bongo_king Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 I've had problems connecting when first set up, after Hard Reset / ROM upgrade etc, but eventually the Orange maniframe will let me in. My advice is to check everything and keep trying. Oh, and shave your head first because it'll be less painfull   After Hard Reset Keep trying - but for how long? I'm sure all my details are correct - I'm only using the orange server for outgoing mail, so there shouldn't be any need for a username & password, right? (at least that's how it used to work). The outgoing server is the only thing that could be wrong as far as I can see, but it's right dammit. It takes eons to connect & denies the validity of every email address I try and send to. Should I just persevere?
Guest Confucious Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 finally got my Orange email username - you can find it on the website under "email and organise" "Youur Details" - an interestin random combination of letters and numbers - really easy to remember! :) Anyway, I've finally got it working (although it doesn't always connect unlike all my other accounts) I get there - evemtually !
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Well done Confucious ! Sorry, Bongo King, I'd put all the details in and persvere. :)
