Guest xerxes Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 I want to buy a C500 but my company supplies Vodafone SIMs. Does the C500 with the Orange firmware work ok on Vodafone? How did you get the Vodafone settings onto the phone? Thanks.
Guest BigBlue007 Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Does the C500 with the Orange firmware work ok on Vodafone?Yes it does. Works flawlessly. How did you get the Vodafone settings onto the phone? By entering them into the phone. :)
Guest dambox Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Yes same situation and works 100%. There is a link on this forum that has all the vodaphone settings for the UK.
Guest m5systems Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 guys, im still having problems getting this working. im sure its cos im a newbie to the spv phones and also smartphones. just come over from a p900 and well impressed so far. has anyone got a full howto on the config for all this? im ok with the credentials to be using (although vodafone claim i should always use account and passwords of "wap") but its which place to configure them and what i should be entering for wap gateways etc etc if anyones got the info or a link to a thread on here i would be eternally gratefull thanks, dan
Guest Confucious Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Are you looking for just WAP settings or GPRS settings? WAP:http://www.filesaveas.com/wap.html GPRS: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html HTH
Guest m5systems Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 cheers mate, am trying them right now - should i be trying to set the phone to use the GPRS connection to service the MMS sending etc? or should there be a separate set of details for the MMS? thanks for replying so quick by the way dan
Guest m5systems Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 still no joy, am convinced its something stupid im doing now - have listed my settings below - feel free to mock me as long as youre telling me the error of my ways so i can correct them! description: vodafone mms MMSC address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms data connection: WAP network gateway: wap 1.0 gateway IP address: 212.183.137.12 port: 9201 (keep trying to put in 09201 but it doesnt like the 0 at beginning and removes itself) am i in completely the wrong place in terms of should i be looking at settings under data connections>edit connections>GPRS connections then each in turn for WAP/GPRS etc? help please!! much appreciated by the way thanks, dan
Guest audiovoxnewbie Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Please, please help! I bought the smt5600 in the states, but while in London I use a vodafone chip. I unlocked the phone using the c500 unlocker program. It wouldn't connect to vodafone using my chip. I then flashed the phone with the Orange ROM and it still wont connect to Vodafone. I put an Orange chip in and it worked fine. Vodafone has a lot of trouble. The main problem seems to be reception. When I'm outside it FINALLY connects to Vodafone but with really poor reception. It then cuts out once i'm inside. please help!!!
Guest Confucious Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Don't Vodafone transmit on 900 which the 5600 doesn't support? The 5600 is tri-Band 850/1800/1900 Orange transmit on 1800 so will work fine but Voda (I believe) transmit on 900 which isn't supported. The C500 is tri-band 900/1800/1900 so will work on voda and orange.
Guest m5systems Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 firsrt of audiovox newbie - no fair you got an smt5600 with media player 10!! but as usual, well in fact every time to my knowledge, confucious is right! i have spotted somewhere, whether on the web or on here, that there is a flash/reg edit hack / change to support switching the phone to 900hz as well or instead of 850 which is what i had planned to do if i picked a 5600 up next time in the states.havent tried it myself or read from anyone that it works but hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel there for you. drop me a private mail if you get stuck with the mms etc setting on the handset config, it took me ages to get everything together working and i have kept a note of the config best of luck, and not to rub it in but i hope that you putting the orange ROM on the handset hasnt wiped off all the smt5600 stuff like mp10 ! if you happen to know anything about a ROM to flash back to the smt 5600 then please let me know as i want to do that to get mp10 myself good luck! and keep active, or reading on this forum, its absolutely spot on for finding stuff out and reading up on bits - the regular posters on here seem to really know their sh1t !! dan
Guest Confucious Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 The Orange ROM supports 900 but the hardware in the 5600 doesn't. You can not change the hardware by flashing the ROM. because 850 and 900 are close you might get some reception but it will never work properly. Best to use an Orange SIm in it.
Guest audiovoxnewbie Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 Thanks a lot guys - absoloutely tragic news! It's a shame cos I really love the phone, maybe I'll have to port my number to orange. Anyway, really appreciate the help, you guys really ought to be commended for your selfless posts - don't know where us newbies would be without these forums!
