Adding q voice tag

When you add a voice tag to an app ,Like i want to add a voice tag to bluetooth toggler app,Is it just a matter of saying the word or do you have to press a button before hand then say the voice tag to launch the app if you get what i mean :?

Press and hold 'volume down'; the phone will beep; say the voice tag.
