Guest olly_k Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Hi there, started playing with my new SVPc500 3 days ago, and being new to SVPs in general, am finding my brain is quickly over-loading with information. (have to say I will never look at an ordinary phone again!!!) Anyway, this site has helped a lot and has reduced my list of questions to somthing more reasonable.... for the moment! 1. How do I access the internet on my phone, but using the modem in the computer.. I have looked for settingsdata connections but can't see any options??? 2. Could someone please explain how I can De-cert my phone? Sorry if there are simple answers to the above but I have read so much on various topics my brain has gone on strike
Guest zeta101 Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 1. This is called using a passthrough conenction. Either you need to have your phone physically conencted to your pc via the usb cable or you use bluetooth (if you pc is blutoothed up, if not dongles are cheap ~£30). On your phone in data connections change the "internet connection" to automatic (this will mean the phone will use the passthrough connection when its available and gprs when your phones not connected to your pc). On your pc, open activesync, go to options and then the Rules tab, at the bottom there should be a passthrough section, make sure the dropdown menu is selected with "the internet". Now when your phone is connected and it has synced successfully it should use the passthrough connection. To check its using it you can see in the very top right hand corner of the phone if it is using gprs (as the icon will change to a signal meter with a little g). To be extra sure its not using gprs you can switch the "flight mode" on, press the power button once and select it. This makes it so your phone cant dial out/receieve for voice calls/sms messages or use gprs. If you plan to use bluetooth, then concentrate on getting it to sync first before you worry about this, there are plenty of threads on conencting using blutooth with the c500. 2. click on OTA, follow the link there, and then follow the instructions (although it says its for the svp/e100 only it works for the c500). Welcome to the site :)
Guest zeta101 Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 oh and to use the OTA, it will use a very small amount of gprs, i think you might be able to use it over the pass through (hehe nice how its related to your first question) but it really is a very small amount of gprs.
